Doris Sweater
The skirt pieces are knit first (or as an alternative make the skirt in one piece - see Note at end of pattern) using a knitted-in I-cord at front vertical edges. The top is knitted from side to side using short rows to shape the front neckline. The left sleeve chevron edge is knitted separately to match cast on detail and not have the chevron droop in reverse. It is attached to the sleeve with kitchener stitch. After attaching bodice to skirt, the I-cord is continued around the neckline (applied I-cord). A frog closure is suggested; button or tie closure can also be used. Finishing
Using steam iron on wrong side, lightly press work to even it out and flatten "cups" on chevron points. Join tops to bottoms, leaving the three I-cord stitches out at left front and right front skirts. At right front, place three remaining stitches from right front skirt onto size 8 DPN and continue attached I-cord edging up right front bodice, around neck and down left front bodice. At left side, attach upper l-cord to lower I-cord w/ kitchener stitch. Sew sleeve and side seams. Weave in ends. Attach frog or preferred closure. Note: If desired, the skirt can be knit all as one piece. CO 265 (288) and K 2 rows, slipping last 3 stitches of second row. Starting on RS front, K6, make 21 (23) Chevron repeats, K4, sl3 purlwise. WS, purl to end of row, slipping last three stitches purlwise. Repeat these 2 rows for 10", approximately 28 repeats. Knit one row, slipping last 3 stitches purlwise. Last row, place 3 st. on scrap yarn. Bind off to last three stitches, placing them on scrap yarn. Do not break yarn as it will be used to make attached I-cord on bodiceedge.
