Unbelievably Simple Baby Hat
This hat willfit a newborn to 3 month old baby. You will be crocheting a rectangle with a Height of 18 cm and a width of $36\,\mathsf{c m}$ . Do not panic if your size isslightly off,the pattern istretchy and babies grow! You will cast on for the short side of the rectangle. With worsted weight yarn and size $6.00\:\mathsf{m m}$ hook. Chain 21 stitches. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across, you should have 20 stitches. Single crochet in every stitch in every row until piece measures 36 cm. My samples are 53 rows tall Finish off.
Finishing:
With short sides together whip stitch to form a tube. Finish top according to desired style:
Flat with 2 Tassels
Fold hat in half and whip stitch top closed. Add tasselto each corner and fold up brim.
Jester with 4 Points and Pompoms
Fold tube so that seam is centered on back side and stitch top together at seam. Pull corners to meet at that stitch and stitch them in the same spot..you will have 4 open "loops", whipstitch each loop towards outer edge creating 4 corners. Attach pompoms to each corner and fold up brim.
Animal
This would make a cute bear in brown, cat in white , a tiger (shown), A giraffe in yellow etc..use your imagination! Fold hat in half and whipstitch top closed. Sew a diagonal line across each corner to form ear. Embroider details like eyes, nose, whiskers, spots etc. To make Tiger, start with Black and crochet 1 row into starting chain then switch to orange for 2 rows, Black for 2 rows. Make a huge orange section 14 rows long. Repeat 2 row stripes until piece is $36\,\mathsf{c m}$ Center large orange section for face and embroider.
