Crochet Patterns for Baby Book and Toy with Anemone and Kiwi Colors

Materials

-Phildar《Licorne》( $100\%$ cotton gased mercerised, $509\!\!=\!\!120\;\!\!{\sf m}/131$ yds) : 4 skeins Anemone (MC), 1 skein Kiwi (CC) OR suggested substitutes : Debbie Bliss 《 Baby cashmerino 》, Luxury collection 《 Baby pima 》. $-\,3\;\mathsf{m m}$ crochet hook -Approx. 40x40 cm of off-white thick fabric that doesn't fray too easily (for $_{2\times2}$ pages. More if you want more pages in the babybook) -Asheet ortwoofiron-on transfer paerto print picson (depending onthenumber of photos you plan to prit. -Pinking shears - One lile sleigh bell to put inside rttle toy - Darning needle to weave in ends and embroider kity's whiskers. - Polyfil to stff rtle toy

Gauge :

$-10\ c m=4^{\prime}=24$ st and 26 rows in Single crochet (sc) $\cdot10\ c m=4^{\prime}=27$ st and 11 rows in Double crochet in front loop (dcfl) Size : Cardigan is sized for a 6-12 months baby. Baby-book is approx. 15 x 17cm.

Stitches used :

- Chain, single crochet, double crochet in front loop, - Spike cluster : (derived from 《 Birdsfoot spikes 》, on page 193 of 《 The Crochet Stitch Bible 》 by Betty Barnden) : insert hook to right of sc 2 rows below and 1 st to right of next sc, yo), pulloop through, insert hook to right of sc 2 rows below next sc, yo, pull loop through, insert hook to right of sc 2 rows below and 1 st to left,(lengthen allthese loops so the work lies flat), yo, pull through 4 loops on hook) - Spike cluster edging : \*5sc along edge of work, 1 spike cluster\*

Cardigan

With Kiwi (CC), ch65. Ch2, dcfl across rows for 2 rows. Cut yarn. Switch to Anemone (MC), join yarn and work 12 rows in dcfl. At 14 cm high, start armhole shaping. Work first 4 st. in sl st, ch3, work in dcfl until 4 last st., turn. (47 st. remaining) Work those 57 st. even for next 10 rows until piece measures 24 cm. At 24 cm, shape neck. Ch2, work 18st in dcfl, turn Next 2 rows : skip 1 st. at neck edge. Fasten off remaining 16 st., cut yarn. Work second side of neck likewise.

Left front :

With Kiwi (CC), ch33, turn Ch2, dcfl across rows for 2 rows. Cut yarn. Switch to Anemone (MC), join yarn and work 12 rows in dcfl At 14 cm high, start armhole shaping. SI st. first 4 st., ch2, work rest of row in dcfl. Work even in dcfl next 6 rows, until piece measures 20 cm. At 20 cm high, shape neck. Sl st first 7 st., work remaining 22 st. in dcfl. Next 6 rows : work in dcfl skipping 1 st. at neck edge $\because$ skip 1 st at end of row OR sl st 1 at beg. of row) At 26 cm high, FO remaining 16 st. and cut yarn. Right front : Work as forrghtside, reversing shaing.

Sleeves (make2) :

With Kiwi (CC), ch41, turnRow1:Ch2, defl across. Row2 : Ch2, 2 dcfl in first st., dcfl across untilast st., 2 defl in last st. ( $\because$ increase 1 at each end). Cut yarn. Switch to Anemone (MC), join yarn. Next, work in dcfl increasing one st. at each end of rows 4, 6, 9, 12 & 15. You have 53 st. Work even for 3 more rows until sleeve measures 18 cm. FO and cut yarn.

Finishing :

Sew sleeve to top of armhole, easing to fit. Sew armhole castoff sections to equal length along the armhole end of the sleeve side edges. Then sew remaining side and sleeve seams, and shoulder seams. , adding 2 little ties on each front side as you go as follows : Beginning at the top front neck corner of the cardigan and working downwards, ch 16, turn, sl st 15, continuing down in spike cluster egding along front side for 20 sts, then make a second tie likewise. Reverse instructions for opposite side (going up towards neck corner).

Kitty rattle toy

Will be worked in the round (except for ears at the end). Make 2 similar pieces. Start each round with ch1, and end each round with sl st in first sc of roundtojoin. Round 1 : with kiwi (CC), ch 5, sl st into first ch to join round. Round $a:2$ sc in each ch . You have 10 st. Round $3:{}^{\star}1$ sc, [2sc in each sc]\*. 15 st. Round $4:^{\ast}2$ sc, [2sc in each sc]\*. 20 st. Round $5:{}^{\star}3$ sc, [2sc in each sc]\*. 25 st. Round $6:{}^{\star}\!4$ sc, [2sc in each sc]\*. 30 st. Finishing :

With Anemone (MC), mbroiderwhiskers ononeof thepiecesthat wil be the 《face》using phots as guide. Onthe $2^{\ n d}$ piestilisinnf tjst $^{\star}\mathrm{Ch}16$ ,turn, sc in $2^{\ n d}$ chain from hook and along all row\*. Slip stich 1 in back of head, then start again from \* to \*. Fasten off. Finally, join two pieces using single crochet seamuntilopening lef is about4 cm, stuff with polfil and add litle sleighbellin middle (try to surround it with polyil all around). Finish joining sides with single crochet seam. Fasten off.

Baby book

Book cover :

With Anemone (MC), ch40. Ch1, work in sc accross, until piece measures 32 cm. Fasten off. With Kiwi (CC), embroider around book cover with spike cluster edging along shorter sides, and sc along longer sides as follows : \*sc5, sc2tog, repeat from\*.

Book band :

With Kiwi (CC), ch35, turn. Ch1, work in sc across, Fasten off.

Finishing

Place pages facing the wrong side of the book cover so that the nicer side is on the outside and the book band is in the middle. Sew book band in place. Your baby book is now complete.
