Pattern:
Starting at neckline, ch 29. Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (skipped chains count as 1st dc), V st in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, V st in next ch, dc in next 13 ch, V st in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, V st in next ch, dc in last 2 ch: 31 dc made. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc, now and throughout pattern), turn, 2 dc in same dc as turning ch, dc in next 2 dc, V st in next V st, dc in next 5 dc, V st in next V st, dc in next 15 dc, V st in next V st, dc in next 5 dc, V st in next V st, dc in next 2 dc, 3 dc in last dc: 43 dc made. Row 3: Ch 3, turn, dc in same dc as turning ch, dc in next 5 dc, V st in next V st, dc in next 7 dc, V st in next V st, dc in next 17 dc, V st in next V st, dc in next 7 dc, V st in next V st, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in last dc: 53 dc made. Row 8: Ch 3, turn, dc in ea dc & ch 1 sp across: 53 dc made. Edging (working in rounds): Round 1: Ch 1, turn, 3 sc in first dc, sc in ea dc across bottom edge of shrug until last dc, 3 sc in last dc. Turn shrug sideways, working along side edges of shrug, 2 sc in ea dc across until top of neckline, turn shrug sideways, 2 sc in next dc, sc in ea of the original starting chains across top of shrug, 2 sc in last dc, turn shrug sideways, working along side edges of shrug, 2 sc in ea dc across, join with a sl st to 1st sc. End off. Cap Sleeves (working in rounds): Round 1: Join yarn with a sl st to ch 1 sp from row 7 (underside of arm), sc in ch 1 sp, hdc in next dc, dc in ea dc around arm hole until last dc, hdc in next dc, sc in between last dc just worked & first sc from beginning of round, join with a sl st to 1st sc: 20 stitches made. Round 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in ea stitch around, join with a sl st to 1st sc: 20 sc made. End off. Repeat for other sleeve. If desired, add extra rows to the sleeves for a long sleeve version.
