Madame Luscious Noro Mobius Scarf by Katie Rose Pryal
A great introductory project for mobius knitting, and excellent way to show off Noro's fabulous colorways or any variegated yarn. I wear this scarf like crazy, and you will too.
Rev. 5.15.08
Supplies
Yarn 3 skeins (300 meters) of Noro Kureyon or Silk Garden; or any worsted-to-aran weight yarn. Needles $54^{\circ}$ (or greater) from tip-to-tip circular needle, size 10.5. One spare needle in smaller size. Ither Blunt-tipped yarn needle. Stitch Marker. Sharp embroidery needle for Russian joining.

So, you know how to mobius?
Great! If you don't, you need to go to a web site for the cast-on tutorial. Once you have casted on the stitches you need, the rest of the project is plain old knit-and-purl. My favorite cast-on method is the scrap-yarn method—-it is super easy. The best tutorial that I have found is on thegirlfromauntie blog: the URL is: http://www.girlfromauntie.com/tech/moebius/inside_out.php.
Russian Joining.
.is the best thing that ever happened to my knitting. In this project, since there is no “wrong” side, a Russian join is essential. Go to knittinghelp.com for an excellent tutorial: http:/ /www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-tips. Scroll down to “joining” and watch the video for Russian Join.

Katie Rose Pryal is one-half of The Knitty Professors with her knitting compatriot and fellow designer Jordynn Jack. They publish patterns at the Fiber Smarts Blog, CO 175 stitches onto circular needle if you are using the scrap yarn method, because then you will pick up and double that number of stitches, giving you 350 sts. If you are casting on more conventionally, CO 350 sts. Place marker to indicate the beginning of round. Proceed to knit and purl rows--these will be loooong rows—in groups of 1, 2, or 3, giving you variegated ridges along your scarf. Use the Russian Join method to join skeins. This is not a good project for weaving in ends, being double-sided and loosely worked. Noro is an excellent yarn for Russian Joining especially if you add a little spit felting for good measure. When you join the last ball of Noro, about 100 meters of yarn, finish your round, then work one round in knit stitch. The work remaining rounds in k2, p2 rib, until you have just enough yarn left to bind off. The ribbing ensures that the very long edges of the scarf do not roll upon themselves. Bind Off: Two points about binding off. First, be sure to leave yourself enough yarn tc bind off all 350 stitches. That's a lot of yarn. Second, bind of LOOSELY. VERY LOOSELY. If you bind off with tension, the edges will pull and the scarf will look less luscious. Note: This scarf lengthens as you wear it. It will gain many inches, maybe even a foot, in length, between the time it comes off the needles to the fifth or sixth wear. That's okay, though-just wrap it around your neck again. fibersmarts.blogspot. com. You can email Katie and Jordynn at knittyprofessors@ gmail.com. Errata notes are more than welcome.
