Sizes

Medium 7.5 - 8.5"/19 - 21.5cm circumference Large 9 -10"/23 - 25.5cm circumference XLarge 10.5 - 11.5"/ 27 - 29cm circumference

Gauge

32sts and 48 rows, in 4"/10cm of stocking stitch.

Tools

US #1 / 2.25mm circular needle or DPNs US #1.5 / 2.5mm circular needle or DPNS or size required for gauge 1 stitch marker darning needle

Abbreviations

k knit p purl sm stitch marker st(s) stitch(es) k2tog knit 2 stitches together ssk slip, slip, knit - to work slip the first 2 stitches as if to knit, slide the left hand needle into the front of both stitches and knit them together.

Pattern Notes

I have written this pattern to be knit with a long circular needle (l use an 80cm one) and the magic loop method. You can substitute your preferred method of small diameter knitting.

Instructions

With smaller circular needle or dpns, cast on 60[70, 80] stitches, and join to knit in the round, placing a stitch marker and taking care not to twist your work.

Ribbing

\*K1, p1, repeating from \* to end of the round. Repeat this round until you have completed 1" /2.5cm of ribbing.

Leg

Swap to larger needles. Rounds 1 and 2 - \*K4, p2, k2, p2, repeat from \* to end of round. Rounds 3 and 4 - \*K2, p2, k4, p2, repeat from \* to end of round. Work leg of sock, repeating Rounds 1-4, until your sock measures 6"/15cm(or desired length) from cast on edge. Rearrange your stitches to have the last 32[32, 42] stitches on one needle and separate from the remaining stitches. This will now be called needle 1.

Heel Flap

Row 1 - Turn your work, sl1, p 31[31, 41]. Row 2 - Turn work, \*sl1, k1, repeating from \*to end of row. Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 32[36, 40] rows.

Turning the Heel

Row 1 - P 18[18, 28], p2tog, p1, turn. Row 2 - sl1, k6[6, 15], k2tog, k1, turn. Row 3 - p to 1 st before gap, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 4 - k to 1 st before gap, k2tog, k1, turn. Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all heel stitches have been worked. The last 2 rows will not have the final p1/k1 stitch. 18[18, 28] heel stitches remain.

Gusset

Pick up and knit stitches between the heel and the foot, using slipped stitches, and one extra stitch in the gap between heel and foot. 17[19, 21] stitches. Work across the top of the foot (needle 2) in pattern. Pick up and knit stitches along the second side of the gusset. 17[19, 21] stitches. K9, place marker (needle 1) You will now have 52[56, 70] stitches on needle 1 with a marker in the middle, for the beginning of the round. 28[38, 38] sts on needle 2. Round 1 - k to 3 sts before end of needle 1, k2tog, k1 Work needle 2 in pattern k1, ssk, k to sm. Round 2 - K to end of needle 1, work needle 2 in pattern, k to marker. Repeat these 2 rounds until you have 28[32, 38] stitches on needle 1. You will have 28[38, 38] on needle 2. Continue to work in pattern with no further decreases until your sock measures approx 1.5"/3.5cm shorter than your desired finished length. MEDIUM andXLARGESIZESONLY Knit 10 rounds. LARGESIZEONLY Round 3 - k to end of needle 1, k1, ssk, kto 3 sts before end of needle 2, k2tog, k1, k to marker. Round 4 - k to marker. Round 5 - k to last 3 sts of needle 1, k2tog, k1, k1, ssk , k to last 3 sts of needle 2, k2tog, k1, k1, ssk, k to marker. Round 6 - k to marker. Repeat rounds 3 - 6 two further times. Large - 26 sts on each needle

MEDIUMandLARGE Work rounds 5 and 6 until there are 20 sts on each needle. ALL SIZES Work round 5 every round until there are 12[14, 18] sts on each needle. Knit to the end of needle 1. Cut yarn and graft toe using Kitchener stitch. Make second sock.

Finishing
