Block Wrap Skirt

This is a really easy pattern to modify for your style and needs. I used the Solid Stripe Block pattern for this, but one could easily use any Granny Square or Afghan Block pattern that was wanted. I chose this one because it was larger in size and was a simple pattern (I didn't want anything that was busy looking in the stitch pattern). My striping sequence was as follows: Round 1 - Black Round 4 - Red Round 5 - Black Round 8 - Red Round 9 - Black Omitted Round 10. I could have made only three blocks if I wanted to use it solely as a cover up (then it would have had a slit at my side), but since I wanted the option to wear it out as well, I went ahead and made four block. I then did a row of dc in red on one side of three of the squares, then joined them together using the reverse mattress stitch, giving the appearance of an invisible join. Then I did a row of dc around the entire joined strip before doing a row of dc on the sides and bottom in black. For the top of the skirt, I started out using foundation double crochet before doing a row of double crochet on the top and finishing with more fdc (in black). Just fdc as long as you'd like/need the ties to be. When I tie this, I just thread the tie between stitches where I need and then tie it on the side. That's it! Notes: Obviously one could do whatever joins they want (such as joining as you go); I just wanted to give the appearance of one huge strip as much as I could. I used worsted weight yarn (2 skeins of WoolEase in black and almost a full one of Dark Horse Fantasy in burgandy) with a size G hook, but really gauge for this isn't as big a deal as is the drape and density of the fabric you want. I wanted more drape and didn't care if it was more open in the stitchwork due to the fact that I was going to have to wear shorts under it anyway with the corners (though I actually wear shorts under all of my short skirts, just in case!). If I made another in the future, I would probably add in darts along the top (when doing the final round in red and again when doing the tie row) using decreases so it doesn't bunch as much along the waist. You don't have to do this, but I thought I'd mention it in case you want to do darts when making this. This hasn't been tested, so if you find any errors or if I'm unclear in any parts, please do let me know!
