Crochet Pikachu Pattern: A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners with Detailed Instructions and Assembly Tips

Crochet Pikachu Pattern

Materials:

Yellow worsted weight yarn Small amount of black, brown, and red worsted weight yarn 4.25 mm crochet hook Scraps of black and white felt for the eyes Fiberfill stuffing Yarn needle Cardboard for supporting the tail (optional)

Notes:

In the materials section I said worsted weight yarn and a 4.25 mm hook, but gauge isn't really important as long as the stitching is tight enough that the stuffing doesn't poke through. Those are simply the sizes I used when I made my Pikachu. This pattern should be fairly easy even for beginner crocheters. The only stitch you need to know is ch (chain), sc (single crochet), and how to crochet both in a ring and in a square. That being said, this is my first time writing a pattern, so if anything is confusing in my wording feel free to contact me at beckamew@gmail.com. I think the hardest part for me to write was the tail, so I hope it's clear enough. Feedback is always welcome, and I will try to get back to you as quickly as possible. I hope you enjoy!

Assembly:

I would recommend sewing the parts together before stuffing (except for the head and body). It makes it a whole lot easier, in my opinion. To begin, sew the ears and cheeks onto Pikachu's head, then pull the remaining yarn inside the head. Using black yarn, sew on a nose and a mouth. I don't really know the best way to do this, but trial and error seems to work fine. Alternatively you could use a fabric marker to draw them on, but I don't think that would look as good. To make the eyes I superglued a tiny circle of white fabric onto a larger circle of black fabric, then glued them in place. If you want to experiment, I'm sure button eyes would be just as cute, but the head is a litle too big for the safety eyes normally used in amigurumi. After the head is complete, sew the stripes onto the back of the body. then flatten out the arms and legs and sew them on. To assemble the tail, take the two sides and sew them together at the edges. To give it a little more structure, I cut out a piece of cardboard in the shape of the tail, but slightly smaller, and sewed the two sides around that. If you didn't do that then maybe a piece of wire inside it could work, or maybe a little stuffing. Without anything to stiffen it up, however, it is just sort of floppy. After you assemble the tail, sew it in place. Make sure all of pikachu's features are fastened securely, and stuff the body and head firmly with fiberfill stuffing. Finally, sew opening of the head to that of the body. Hope you enjoy your new pikachu! :D
