Helpful Hints about this pattern
Instructions given for Sizes: (Adult Average/Teen) & (Adult Large/Men's) The design & construction of this hat will provide soft, gentle & complete coverage of the head making it a perfect Chemo Cap. This hat is actually reversible because of its unique construction of being mostly worked with the spiral technique & utilizing the BLO while working the stitches. The 'Right Side' gives the appearance of a traditional Crocheted Hat. The 'Wrong Side' has the appearance similar to that of a Knit Hat. Neat Huh I very much rather use a contrast color yarn to mark the beginning of each round as oppose to a traditional stitch marker because if you simply drape it over the first stitch of the previous round, back & forth throughout the working up of the hat, then work the first stitch of the new round, you'll always have a clear marking of the beginning of the rounds as you work up the hat. Example: Your pet 'accidentally' pulls the yarn on your hat. No problem. With the contrast color yarn, and the help of the Knitting Counter you'll more easily pick up the round in which the hat has been unraveled. A traditional stitch marker will not afford you that knowledge in previous rounds if the hat is unraveled. Do use a Knitting Counter as you progressin rounds because this hat construction & the single crochet stitches used to make this hat will make it difficult, especially for beginner crocheters, to differentiate the number of rounds. ● Increase Rounds: The very last stitch of the round will be an increase stitch. ● Decrease Rounds: The very last stitch of the round will be a decrease stitch.
Pattern Instructions
Slip Knot leaving a 8 inch tail. Ch 4 Join first & fourth chains into a ring with a Sl St. Round 1: Ch 1, Then work 12 Sc into the center of the ring. Place a stitch marker into the first Sc made. Do NOT join round. (12 sts) \* I like to work the 8 inch tail along with Round 1, as if the tail were part of the round, because after a couple of rounds you can give it a pull & cinch the beginning hole completely shut. For Rounds (2 - 33), Sc into ONLY the Back Loops of the stitches. Place a stitch marker, or a piece of yarn in a contrast color, into the very first Sc of each round to mark the beginning of the new round because you'll be working the rounds up using the spiral method without joining.
