Needle: size 4 or 5 DPNs Gauge: 4sts/inch

any sport or worsted weight cotton or wool or cotton/wool blend. Handspun is great for this! It has a great scrubbing \*texture\*. Wool and blends of will eventually felt/full for a denser fabric.

About 1 oz.required. I usually use my leftovers from larger projects--about 40 yards. Abbreviations: K=knit P=Pearl inc=increase dec=decrease (k2tog) k2tog=knit2together-tfl usually pm=place marker EOR=end of row BOR=beginning of row st(s) =stitch(es) CO=cast on YO=yarn over sc=single crochet tfl=thru front loop tbl=thru back loop dpn=double point needle BO=bind off
Body:
CO 9 sts and divide on 3 needles evenly. (I like using the crochet chain method. I usually crochet 5 stitches, join and then sc the 9 CO sts. Then I insert tbl of 3 stitches on each of 3 needles.)
Increase rounds:
Reverse Stockinette Stitch This pattern is worked on dpns and the finished fabric should look like garter stitch fabric. \*\*Every other row must be worked in P\*\* Increases are worked in the last stitch of each needle as follows: Row 1: N1= \*K2, inc 1 at EOR by knitting in the front loop and directly into the back loop of stitch #3\*. Repeat between \* \* for needles 2 and 3. (4 stitches on each needle). PM at EOR. Row 2: P all stitches to EOR. Row 3: N1= \*K3,inc 1 at EOR\*. Repeat between \* \* for needles 2 and 3. etc.... Repeat this increase pattern until you have about 9 stitches on each needle. This is good for the average bar of soap. Other shapes may require either less or more stitches.
Body:
Work body in alternating rows of pearl and knit straight (no increases) until it measures 3.5 to 4 inches.
Rope holes:
\*Note: You should have 9 stitches on each needle. Needle 1= K1, \*YO,K2tog\* Repeat between \* \* to EOR. Repeat for Needles 2 and 3. Next 3 rows: Knit all stitches. BO loosely. Weave in ends.
Rope:
6 Foot length of yarn or of a bulky cotton soft rope. Twist for rope method: You can do this in three ways: 1. Rope Twister--follow instructions, pinch and fold in half to make about a 3 foot rope. 2. Spinning Wheel- tie one end of length of yarn to orifice opening. Have someone stand at the end of rope pinching firmly. Pedal until rope begins to kink. Pinch and fold in half, undo and hold ends, let rope twist into 3 foot length working out any extra twists or kinks. 3. Tie one end of rope to something stationary-like a doorknob. Tie to a pencil in the middle. Stand back until taunt and begin twisting in one direction until the yarn starts to kink. Pinch in the middle of length, bring 2 ends together and let rope twist to form 3 foot length-working out andy extra kinks or twist. Work rope thru over and under each of the eyelet holes in the top of the bag. Ties ends. Insert soap. Pull drawstring tight and.... Your S2K SoapSock is ready for the shower or bath.
