Gelato Top Version 2 Crochet Pattern for Children: Sizes 2-4 Years with Ice Cream Motif and Hair Band Tutorial

GELATO \*VERSION 2\*

another version of this pretty top for your favourite little girl @

Pattern illustration

I liked the row of icecream motifs in Gelato version 1 but had a request for just one large motif in the middle so of course I had to oblige! Just for you I have added the hair band pattern at the end. You can't say I don't spoil you!

Finished size

Age 2, 3 and 4 years. The sizes are relatively generous as the 4 year old size fits my petite 5 year old and the 3 year size fits my average 3.5 year old.

Gauge

10 st x 6 rows [3 dc/scflo pattern repeats] = 6 x 6 cm (2.5 x 2.5 inches) approximately. The top is worked from top down so if you prefer it wider or longer then it is easy to adjust by adding increases or rows respectively.

Hook & Yarn

The yarn pictured here is Sirdar Simply Recycled cotton rich aran and all the sizes are based on this weight yarn. It is a light worsted weight equivalent with quite a smooth texture but light and easy to work with even if it splits occasionally. A 4mm hook was used for this project as I found it gave a closer knit and therefore gave the motifs more definition. The yarn band recommended a size 5 hook so if using different yarn bear this in mind.

Yardage

2 and 3 year sizes 2 50g balls cream (shade 0011) Colour 1 1 50g ball brown (shade 0036) Colour 2 1 50g ball raspberry (shade 0032) Colour 3 4 year size - as for other sizes with an extra ball of cream (shade 0011)

Extras

4 matching or contrasting beads. Darning needle.

GELATO HAIR BAND

Pattern illustration

A child's hair band with room for adjustment to the head size. I used a 3.5mm hook and DK cotton left over from another project. Overall I used about 14 50g ball of Sirdar Recycled Cotton Aran DK. The band is fastened with a button which of course can be fixed at whatever point is appropriate. As such gauge is not important.
