Beginner's Easy Knit and Purl Stripes Hat An Original Design by CraftySummer

Materials:
A. one skein of noro bonbori yarn (about 90 yards) \*(because of bonbori's unique weight, I highly recommend using bonbori for this project, however, if you do wish to substitute you will need about 90yds of either a heavy aran, or a light bulky weight yarn. if using bulky weight you may want consider going down to a needle size US10 for a snugger fit) B. 16" circular needles US 10 % C. Yarn needle for finishing
Pattern:
Step 1: Cast on 77 stitches, join in a round, be careful not to twist, and put 1 stitch marker at the join. Step 2: review the two choices: {knit 2 entire rows, purl one entire row} - repeat 3x for smaller space between stripes OR {knit 3 entire rows, purl one entire row} - repeat 3x for more space between stripes Step 3: knit all stitches until the hat is about 6 inches and then start decreases Step 4: Decrease goes as follows: {k9, k2tog} rep. to end of row {k8, k2og} rep. to end of row {k7, k2tog} rep to end of row {k6, k2tog} rep. to end of row {k5, k2tog} rep. to end of row {k4, k2tog} rep. to end of row {k3, k2tog} rep. to end of row {k2, k2tog} rep. to end of row {k1, k2tog} rep. to end of row {k2tog} rep to end of row. now 7 stitches remain Step 5: Finishing Steps: Cut a 6 inch or so tail of yarn and thread into a yarn needle. Using the needle, run the yarn through the 7 remaining stitches twice, loosely. Be sure needle is on inside of hat and pull tight to close the top. Tie off the end, weave it in and voila!
