Alli is named for my childhood best friend - pretty and quiet, yet full of mischief and fun. With a v-neck, elbow length sleeves and feature buttons on the waist and cuffs, this top will fit the bill for any girl who loves pretty clothes, yet it is still comfortable and practical. It is the perfect top for every fun-filled mischief maker. Written for dk weight yarn for sizes Newborn to 10 years.
What you need
4mm circular needle (40 or 60cm depending on size knitted, also 30cm for sleeves) 3.5mm 80cm circular needle 4 stitch markers Waste yarn 4 %" / 17mm buttons (one for each sleeve and 2 for waistband)

Joining the fronts
You will now join the two front pieces together and continue knitting in the round. Break yarn. With right side facing, slip all the right front stitches (when worn) from the right needle onto the left needle.Replace marker withSORM. Rejoin yarn, knit until 3 st remain of the right front, p1, sl1p (with yarn in back), p2tog (this will join the two fronts together), psso, p1, knit to end of round. You will now have 32(34, 34, 36, 38, 40) (42, 44, 46,48,50,52,54)st between the SORM and second marker. Round 1 -\*k1, m1l, knit to 1 st before marker, m1r, k1, sm; rep from \* to end of round. Round 2 - knit. Divide for sleeves
In the next row you will be placing the sleeve stitches onto waste yarn and casting on under the arms to join the body. Knit to marker, remove marker, place sleeve st until marker onto waste yarn, backwards loop co 3(4, 3, 3, 2, 3) (4, 4,3, 4, 3, 3, 3). Knit acr0ss to next marker, place sleeve st until marker onto waste yarn, backwards loop co 2(2, 2, 2, 1, 2) (2, 2,2, 2,2,2, 2), place SORM, c0 1(2, 1, 1, 1, 1) (2, 2, 1, 2,1, 1, 1) Stitch c0unt 94(100, 106,110, 116, 122) (128, 132,138,144,150,154,162) Knit until top measures 9/23(10/25.5, 11/28, 12/30.5, 12.5/32, 13/33) (14/35.5,15/38, 16/40.5, 17/43, 18/45.5,19/48, 20/51)"/cm from the shoulder. Hem
Remove marker, knit 6 stitches, replace marker. Change to 3.5mm needles. Knit 1x1 rib to marker, remove marker, backwards loop co 6 st. Turn work (you will now be knitting back and forth not in the round.) Knit 1x1 rib as established until hem measures 1.5" /3.5cm (sizes nb - 9m) 2"/5cm (12m - 10y). Cast off loosely in pattern.
Sleeves
Place the sleeve stitches from the waste yarn onto 4mm 40cm circular needle (or preferred method of small circumference knitting) Pick up and knit 3(3, 3, 3, 2, 3) (3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3)st, place SORM, pick up and knit 2(3, 2, 2, 2, 2) (3, 3, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2)st, knit to SORM. Stitch count 41(44,48,48,52,53)(57,58,61,62, 66,66,70)st. Decrease round - k1, k2tog, knit to 3st before marker, ssk, k1. Right sleeve (when worn)
Backwards loop co 6 stitches. Turn work. You wil now be knitting back and forth. Change to 3.5mm needles Knit 1x1 rib until cuff measures 1"/2.5cm Cast off loosely in pattern.
Left sleeve (when worn)
Turn work. You will now be knitting back and forth. Change to 3.5mm needles Knit 1x1 rib to end of row. Backwards loop co 6 stitches. Knit 1x1 rib as established until cuff measures 1"/2.5cm. Cast off loosely in pattern.
Finishing
Sew in ends. Use the ends from the sleeve and hem to sew the button tab neatly in place. For the waistband, the tab goes under the garment; for the sleeves, the tab comes from behind and goes on top. Block garment gently. Sew a button on each cuff and 2 at the waistband.
