Finished Size: Using 4 ply/ Fingering cotton and Hook size B1 the whale should be approx 10 cm / 4 inches wide Materials: Cotton Hook Size Superfine -Sock / Baby B1-E4 / Fingering NB: approx 4g/0.1 oz of main color You can vary the size by using different size thread, adjust the hook size as follows: Fine -Sport / Baby E4-7 Light DK,Light Worsted 7-19 Medium- I-9 to K-10 1/2 Worsted,Afghan, Aran Small amount contrast to make waterspout and details

Foundation: 15 chain turn Row 1: 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end ,4 ch turn (14sc) Row 2: 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in next 2 ch, 1sc in next 13 sc, work 2 sc in last sC, 1 ch turn. (18sc) Row 3: 2sc in 1st sc, work 1 sc in each sc to end, 1 ch turn (19sc) Row 4: 1sc in each sc , working 2 sc in last sc, 1ch turn (20sc) Row 5: 1sc in each sc to end, 1ch turn (20sc) DO NOT FASTEN OFF lall Row 6: 2sc tog, 1 sc in next 2 sc, 1ch turn (3 sts) Row 7: 1sc in next 3 sc, 1ch turn Row 8: 2 sc tog, 1 sc in next sc, 1ch turn Row 9: 2sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in next sc , 1ch turn Row 10: 2 sc tog, 1 sc in next sc,1ch turn Row 11: 1sc in next 2 sc,1ch turn Row 12: 2sc in each sc, 7ch turn (4sc) Row 13: 1sc in 2nd ch from hook,1dc next ch,2dc next ch, 1dc next ch, 1dhc next ch,1 sc in next ch. Slst in 2nd sc on previous row. (half tail worked), 9 ch Row 14: 1sc in 2nd ch from hook,1dc next ch,2dc tog in next 2ch, 2dc tog in next 2ch, 1dhc next ch,1 sc in next ch. Slst in last sc on previous row. Fasten off. Fasten off. Turn work.
Rest of body
Row 6: Rejoin cotton in 4th sc from tail, 1 ch , 1sc in next 13sc, 1ch turn Row 7: 2sc in 1st sc,1 sc next 12sc, 1ch turn Row 8: 2 sc tog, 1sc next 10 sc, 2sc tog turn, 1ch turn Row 9: 1sc in next 10sc, 2sc tog. 1 ch turn, Row 10: 2sc tog, 1sc in next 7sc, 2sc tog, 1ch turn Row 11: 1sc in 9sc, 1ch turn Row12: 2sc tog, 1 sc in next 5 sc, 2sc tog\* without turning, work sc around whale to base of tail, work slst up and around tail, continuing with sc around the body of whale and slst in 1st sc at top. Fasten off.
WATER SPOUT
\*\*Join contrast cotton in 3rd stitch at top of head with slst, 10 ch, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3dc in next ch,1sc in each next 2 ch, 4ch, work 2 dc tog in 4th chain from hook, 3ch , slst in same ch. 5ch, work (1dc,1sc) in 5th ch from hook, work 1hdc in each remaining chain, slst in head (3rd stitch from join). Fasten off.. Embroider eye and mouth. Note: If you wish you whale to be facing the other way, 1 ch, turn at \* working dc and slst as describe above.
DIRECTIONSFORSTITCHES
slst - slip stitch
Insert the hook from the front, under the two top threads of the stitch next to the hook, yarn over and draw it through the stitch AND the loop on the hook in one movement.
Sc -- Single crochet
insert the hook into next stitch,yarn over hook,draw it through the chain, there are now two loops on the hook. Yarn over hook draw through the two loops, one loop will remain on the hook. One single crochet (sc) now completed.
Hdc - Half double crochet
Yarn over hook, insert hook into next stitch,yarn over, and draw loop through stitch. There are now three loops on the hook, yarn over , and draw it through all three loops, one loop will remain on the hook. One half double crochet (1hdc) completed
Dc - Double Crochet
Yarn over hook, insert hook in to next stitch, yarn over,and draw loop through stitch. There are now three loops on the hook, yarn over , and draw it through two loops, two loop will remain on the hook, yarn over hook . Draw through remain 2 loops,one loop left on hook. One double crochet (1dc) completed .
2sc tog
Insert hook into next stitch ,yarn over hook, draw through stitch,2 loops on hook, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over hook,draw through stitch (3 loops on hook) yarn over draw through all loops.
2dc tog
Yarn over hook, insert hook in to next stitch, yarn over,and draw loop through stitch.
