BSJOHNSON SHAWL FOR MUMSIE AKA'BOOMERANGSHAWL'
Few people realize that Bloody Stupid Johnson (one of Discworld's greatest inventors of all time) occasionally dabbled in knitting design. This was one of his more successful patterns. Finally this pattern is available to others due to the modern miracles of sub-space hyper-ganglionic connections and Y-Space publication.

Cast on 1: Return rows are knit or purled . Mr. Johnson suggests rolling a die and knitting the return row if even, purling the return row if odd. 1) Knit front and back 3) Knit 1, knit front and back 5) Knit until 1 stitch remains, knit front and back 7) Knit1, k2tog, knit until 1 stitch remains, knit front and back Repeat rows 5 through 8 until depth of desired shawl is on the needle. End with a row 8 9) Knit until 2 stitches remain, k2tog 11) Knit front and back, k1, k2tog, knit until 2 stitches remain; k2tog Repeat rows 9 through 12 until can no longer work row 11; Work row 9 until left with single stitch on the needle. Pull yarn through and weave in end. Notes: It is suggested knitting all return rows when less than 7 stitches are on the needle will reduce curling of the ends. A three stitch garter border maintained at either end of the row is also suggested.
