Heartwarming Scarf
Flowermouse Design - Lone Arnsted

I lve bright colors. They are the joy to knitting, and colors to the cheeks on gray days. And why not use colors when there are so many of them? The idea for this design came after learning to use colors in knitting. I wanted to knit in contrasting colors that harmonize with each other. By swapping the position f background and pattern color halfway through the scarf, it looks like more colors are used than the eight I picked out. The scarfis inspiredby the colors andthejoy of creating something unique Everyone deserves a colorful scarf with hearts on.
A little about techniques
Colors
The eight colors are picked out using a color wheel. If you use complementary colors from the color wheel, you will get colors in harmony with each other. If you want a less brighter scarf you can stil use the color wheel but choose pastel colors. Avoid using white, gray or black. Those colors will create disharmony and will not compliment your other colors.
Stranded pattern
Always keep your yarn threads in the same place when knitting the pattern. Use the pattern color as the dominant color. Twist the yarn in the back if you find the flows being too long.
Knit a joggles pattern
When you knit in the round the hearts in the joggle between rounds will be deformed. I do this to get a joggles pattern: Heart pattern 1: You have knitted the first hearts, according the chart, and one row of background color. Now, knit first row following the chart BUT at the end of this row (2st before end) you now knit the pattern stitches for the heart. This means that you start knitting the second row of the pattern before you are supposed to. Do this on every row knitting the heart in the joggle. And knit like this every time you knit hearts in the joggle between rows. Heart pattern 2: You have knitted the first hearts (not in the joggle) and started on one row of backround color, BUT 3st before the row ends, start knitting the heart. Follow the pattern and remember to knit the heart in the joggle by starting before the row ends. Do this on every row knitting hearts in the joggle. And knit like this every time you knit hearts in the joggle between rows. This may be hard to understand at first - but once you start knitting you will seeitbetter.
Avoid weaving in ends
If you only want four ends to weave in you can spit splice your ends. You wil find a video for a tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uLiFOVmcUU&playnext=1&list=PL77EBA 8B66BEDF6F1&feature=results_video Abbreviations K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together K1: Knit one stitch yo: Yarn over K2tog tbl: knit 2 stitches together through the back loop
