Swirly Spring Breezes Hat

Worsted Weight Yarn (or two strands of DK Weight yarn held together, as in picture) Size US 8 (5mm) 16"circular needles and/or dpns Stitch marker Tapestry Needle
Gauge:
20 sts/4" (10cm) in k3p2 ribbing of hat brim 16 sts/4" (10cm) in body of hat swirl pattern 24 rounds/4" (10cm) in either stitch pattern Finished circumference, unstretched, is 13"; stretched circumference easily fits 22" head, and hat is approximately 8" long. Brim: CO 75sts, place marker and join in the round, careful not to twist stitches. K3P2 ribbing around until brim is 1-1/2 inches long from C0 edge (roughly 8 rows) Purl 1 entire round Rounds 1 and 2: (k3p2) entire round Rounds 3 and 4: k2p2, (k3p2 around) to last stitch before marker, k1 Rounds 5 and 6: k1p2, (k3p2 around) to last two stitches before marker, k2 Rounds 7 and 8: (p2k3) entire round Rounds 9 and 10: p1, (k3p2 around) to last four stitches before marker, k3p1 Repeat rounds 1-10 two more times (30 total body rows, in addition to brim rows) At this point, the hat should be approximately 6-1/2 inches long from cast-on edge. Crown & Decrease (you will have to switch to dpns around row 5, if you're not already using them): Round 1: k3p2, (k1, k2tog, p2, k3p2 around) to marker - 68sts 0n needles Round 2: k3p2, (k2, p2tog, k3p2 around) to marker - 61sts on needles Round 3: k2p2, (k2tog, p1, k3p2 around) to last stitch before marker, k1 - 54sts on needles Round 4: k2p2, (k2tog, k3p2 around) to last stitch before marker, k1 - 47 sts on needles Round 5: k1p2, (k2tog, k2p2 around) to last two stitches before marker, k2 - 40sts on needles Round 6: k1p2 (k3p2 around) to last two stitches before marker, k2 - 40sts on needles Round 7: (p2, k1, k2tog) entire round - 32 sts on needles Round 8: (p2tog, k2) entire round - 24 sts on needles Round 9: (p1k2tog) entire round - 16 sts on needles Round 10: (k2tog) entire round - 8 sts on needles
Finishing:
Break the yarn with a 5" tail, thread yarn onto a tapestry needle, and remove sts from knitting needle onto tapestry needle knit-wise. Cinch up tightly, make a TINY knot, and weave in loose ends.
