Special stitches: hhdc (herringbone half-double crochet): Yo, insert hook into next st, yo, draw yarn through st and first loop on hook, yo, draw through both loops on hook. Pattern notes: When switching colors, be sure to leave enough of a tail to weave in the ends.
Pattern:
quares: Make 4 With main color (sage green), chain 31. Row 1: In third ch from hook, hhdc. Continue hhdc to end of chain. Should end with 29 hhdc. Turn. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hhdc). Hhdc in each stitch across (total of 30 stitches). Turn. Rows 3-16: Repeat Row 2. Row 17: Switch to second color (cornflower blue). Ch 2. Hhdc in each stitch across (total of 30 stitches). Turn. Rows 18-19: Repeat Row 17. Row20: Switchto third color (ecru). Ch 2. Hhdc in each stitch across(total of 30 stitches). Turn. Row 21: Repeat Row 20. Row 22: Switch to main color (sage green). Ch 2. Hhdc in each stitch across (total of 30 stitches). Turn. Row 23: Repeat Row 22. Row 24: Repeat Row 22. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Assembly:
Take 2 squares and decide which side is the best side (personal preference). Place wrong sides (the interior sides you won't see) facing one another. Make sure stripes line up. In the corner where the loop will be (again, personal preference), join the third color (ecru). Ch 2 (counts as hhdc), hhdc in corner, space hhdc evenly all around and 3 hhrc in corners. All hdc should go through both squares to join them. When you get back to the ch 2, hhdc in corner (should now have 3 hhdc including ch 2), join to ch 2. Do NOT fasten off(unless you don't want the loop - directions below). Making the loop: Ch 8 and join to third hhdc of corner. Turn. Hhdc in each ch. (8 stitches). Fasten off leaving long til.Weave in ends, reinforcing loop if necesary.
