Outlander Claire's Cowl Crocheted by E. s. Paul

I fell in love with all of the knit pieces in the new Outlander series on television. I don't knit much, so here is an attempt at a crocheted version of Claire's brown cowl. This is to be folded in half and looped over the head. To imitate the knit look the pattern is alternating rows of \* (bpdc, bpsc), and \*(bldc, blsc). It is worked in turned rows. Each dc will be above a sc and each sc will be above a dc. We will crochet with 2 strands of yarn held together. The front side will be the back posts and will look a bit ribbed. The back side is the back loop side and will have the vacant loops making a line acrosstherow. Stitches: bpsc = back post single crochet bpdc = back post double crochet blsc = back loop single crochet bldc = back loop double crochet Pattern: With your P hook and HOLDING 2 STRANDS TOGETHER ch 22 Row 1: dc in the second ch from the hook, \*(sc, dc) across to end on a dc, ch1 and turn. (22 Including that first sc formed by double crocheting in the 2nd chain.) Row 2: back post double crochet around the single crochet from below. This will pull the top loops forward. repeat \*(bpsc, bpdc) across the row ending on a bpdc, ch 1 and turn. (22 includingtheturningchain) Row 3: back loop double crochet above the sc from below, which will be the first stitch. \*(blsc, bldc) across ending on a bldc, ch 1 and turn. (22)

Insert hook back to front before the stitch and then front to back after the stitch so it forms aroundthepost.

Repeat row 2 and 3 until you get 90 rows ending on a row 2/back post row. Twist twice (or 1 FULL twist) and seam so that the front sides are matching by slip stitching through both pieces, wrong sides together. (ie. NOT a front side to a back side.) This should make your seam invisible. To wear it, fold it top to bottom in half. Double loop it over so the twist lays flat and is on the side of your neck. Adjust it referring to pictures of Claire. And ENJOY!
