DUETT

By Mirella Lilli Translated by Isabel Nasi
nis cowl for the BFF swap (best friends forever) on Ravelry
As per the original post : "Each knitter will knit two identical cowls (same color, same pattern) so when you swap it, each member of the team will have two different cowls: one in color A and one in color B, one with one pattern and one with another pattern". Herebelow you'll find the instructions to knit the cowl in the round (Duett One) or on two needles (Duett Two)

Pattern
In both cases, the main concern with this pattern (adapted from the "Omas Strickgeheimnisse" book) is in the 7th row, when you must pick up the yo's from the 6 previousrows.

This is how the yo's look at the end of the 6th row.

7th row : cast on 5 sts, k1 encompassing the 6 strands of > yo's from the previous rows...

. cast-on further 6 sts to restore their number (This is how the 7th row looks at the end)
Round pattern over 20 sts
Co 160 sts and purl for 2 rows. From the 3rd row on, follow the chart for the round pattern. Repeat it 8 times. Repeat the pattern's 8 rows until desired size. Finish with 2 purl rows. Bind off loosely and weave in ends. Wash and block.
Two needles pattern on 20 sts + 6 + 12 (border)
Cast on 178 sts. Purl 1st row and knit 2nd row. From the 3rd row on, follow the chart for the two needles, as follows : 6 border sts, 5 sts, 8 pattern repeats (inside the blue lines), 1 st, 6 border sts
PLEASE NOTE
The first and the last border sts will always be knit, the remaining 5 sts will be worked in stockinette st (knit one row, purl the next row). In one of the borders create the buttonholes. The in-between distance will depend on the measure of the buttons. Repeat the pattern's 8 rows until desired size. Finish with 1 purl row and 1 knit row. Bind off loosely and weave in ends and sew buttons. Wash and block. Enjoy! This pattern is for personal use only, not for sale. All rights reserved both on the pictures and the text.

The two yo's are dropped and you make new ones, which will in turn be dropped in the next row The number of stitches per row are restored by cast-ons on row 7
