Fibonacci-Inspired Giant Granny Square Blanket Pattern: Crochet with Worsteds & Fibonacci Sequence

This simple but striking blanket isbased on the granny square Instead of multiple granny squares put together, i is one giant granny square. The nature of the granny square makesit poible to apply the Fibonacci sequence in infinite ways to make your blanket unique. Try it and see how fun it can be!

GAUGE: Not important. You can stop adding rounds when the blanket is the size you desire. You can even make a bedspread size blanket if you keep going. YARN: Worsted weight yarn. Yarn used in this blanket are: TLC Essentials (6 oz./170g, 312 yds/285m, $100\%$ acrylic). 1 skein Paradise Blue 2821 (A), 2 skeins Island 2916 (B), 1 skein Winter White 2316(C), 1 skein Butter 2220 (D), and 1 skein Celery 2615 (E). MATERIALS: Size H8 (5mm) crochet hook

MEASUREMENTS: 33" square

NOTEs: The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical sequence that is found in nature. It is naturaly appealing to the human eye and is therefore used in many designs and art. It is as follows: 0, 1, 1. 2,3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, etc. The following number is the result of adding the two previous numbers. It can go to infinity. Here, I have started the blanket with 3 rounds, then 2, 1, 2, 3, 5,8, 5, 3, 2, 1. As you can see, you can go up and down the sequence in any combination you want as long as you keep the sequence. You may also use any color sequence you like. CARE: Wash in warm water ingentlecycle. Dry on medium. High heat inthe dryer wil scorch the fabric.

PATTERN:

With A (blue), chain 4. Join with sl st to the first ch to make a circle. Round i: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout). 2 dc in circle, ch 2, (3 dc, ch 2) 3 times. Join with sl st to first dc. Place marker to mark Right Side. Turn. R2: Ch 3,2 dc in ch-2 sp, ch2, 3dc in same ch-2 sp, ch1. \* 3dc, ch 2, 3dc in next ch-2 sp, ch1\* Repeat from \* to \* 2 more times. Join with sl st to first dc. Turn. R3: Ch 3, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1. $\star_{3}$ dc, ch 2, 3 dc in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1.\* Repeat from \* to \* twice more. 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in corner ch-2 sp, ch1. Join to first dc. Fasten off. With B (variegated), join withsI st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. R1: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch2, 3 dc, ch 1. $\star_{3}$ dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1.\* Repeat from \*to\* until you come to the next ch-2 sp. [From this point throughout the rest of the blanket, work this in allch-2 $\{p.J$ Join with sl st to first dc. Turn. R2: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1. Work in ch-1 sp and in ch-2 corner sp as indicated above to complete the round. Join with slst t first dc.Fasten off. With C (white), join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work One round as with B above. Fasten off. With D (butter), join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work Two rounds as with B above. Fasten off. With B(variegated) jin with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work Three rounds as with B above. Fasten off. With E (celery), join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work Five rounds as with B above. Fasten off. With B (variegated), join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work Eight rounds as with the first B above. Fasten off. With A (blue), join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work Five rounds as with B above. Fasten off. With B (variegated), join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work Three rounds as with the first B above. Fasten off.

With E(celery),join with sl st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work Two rounds as with B above. Fasten off.

With C (white, join with s st to any ch-2 corner sp with RS facing. Work One round as with B above. Do not fasten off and use C for the finishing round as follows: To create afinished look, ch1 (counts asfirst sc), sc around the blanket in every stith and ch-1 sp. 3sc ineach corner sp.
