DIRECTIONS
Size: Short (Long) Using a 5.5mm circular needle (or size required to get gauge) cast on 84 stitches. Join to work in the round. Set-up round: P to end of rnd. Stitch Pattern: Round 1: K to end of rnd. Round 2: $^{\ast}\mathsf{K}1$ p1 repeat from \* to end of rnd. Round 3: K to end of rnd. Round 4: $^{\ast}\mathsf{K}1$ p1 repeat from \* to end of rnd. Then repeat rounds 1-4 once more. Cast off purlwise. If, like me, you're one of those people who finds halfway through the day that you have your t-shirt on inside out, or your jumper on back to front, then this cowl is for you. It's completely reversible so you can sling it on any which way you please.
The Important Stuff
YARN REQUIREMENTS You will need approximately 115-200m of any worsted weight or aran weight yarn. The red cowl measures approximately 30cm wide x 30cm tall. (200m yarn required). The multi-coloured cowl measures approximately 30cm wide x 18cm tall.(115m yarn required).
GAUGE
As a guide, use a needle one size larger than recommended for your chosen yarn. The stocking stitch gauge is 16.5 stitches $=$ 10cm on $5.5\mathsf{m m}$ needles. Gauge in the stitch pattern is 14 stitches $=$ 10cm measured across round 4 after two full repeats. Getting an exact gauge is not crucial but if you find yourself choosing between needles choose the larger needle as this will give you more drape. Row gauge is not important for this cowl as you can always work additional repeats to achieve the length you desire. In the pictured cowls one stitch pattern repeat is about 2.9cm fall。
Pattern Notes
Please note that yarn requirements are approximate and do not include the yarn required for a swatch. The pattern is written in two sizes - short and long. The short cowl is approximately 18cm tall. The long cowl is approximately 30cm tall. The long cowl has more pattern repeats. Both cowls have a circumference of 60cm. The stitch pattern used causes a very slight jog along the end of round line. You may be able to make it out in the picture to the right. If you wish to avoid the jog there are a number of techniques you can employ. Searching for jogless stripes in the round or jogless garter stitch in the round will reveal a host of articles, including some excellent ones by Kathryn Ivy (kathrynivy.com) and Tech Knitting (techknitting.blogspot.com).

The stitch pattern used means that the cowl is fully reversible. It looks good on both sides. ABBREVIATIONS K Knit P Purl Pwp Purl, wrapping yan twice around the needle for each stitch. Rnd Round Sts Stitches
