The Secret - Mystery Mitten (stranded):
MEAsuREMENTs: 9 cm (3 %2") wide [18 cm (7") around] by 17.5 cm (7") long (not including the cuff), 24.5 cm (9 %") with cuff.
YARN: Fingering Weight (Superfine #1)@3
Seen here: Lanett 100% merino superwash wool; 182m/50g; 6021 (light grey), 7762 (green), 1001 (white), 1088 (charcoal), 2001 (lemon yellow), and Knit Picks Stroll 75% superwash merino wool, 25% nylon; 231 yds/50g; in Scarlet (red) and Merlot Heather (brown). 1 ball of grey; % ball of red, charcoal and green; one or two yards/meters of white, brown, and yellow. MATERIALs: size US 1 (2.25mm) circ needle(s) or set of 5 double pointed needles, tapestry needle, waste yarn, 3 stitch markers (optional) GAUGE: 11 stitches and 12 rows = 1" (2.5 cm) in pattern in the round. NoTes: These mittens are worked in stranded knitting. Both the thumb and mitten body are knit in the round. For a consistent gauge do not create floats over more than 3 or 4 sts at a time. I found that a backward loop cast on worked well in place of a regular M1 increase. Knitters using a black-and-white printer may wish to mark their pages while referring to the computer screen as some colors may not show up clearly when printed. (if you have never used the following embroidery stitches: duplicate stitch, chain stitch or back stitch, you may want to practice.)
CLUE 1:
RIGHT MITTEN CuFF:
With the MC, cast on 72 sts. Join in the rnd, careful not to twist sts. Place marker at beginning of rnd. Work 1 x 1 ribbing for 3 rnds. Work rnds 4 to 35 according to the chart. Read the chart from bottom to top and from right to left. (Each square represents 1 stitch.)

LEFT MITTEN CUFF:
With the MC, cast on 72 sts. Join in the rnd, careful not to twist sts. Place marker at beginning of rnd. Work 1 x 1 ribbing for 3 rnds. Work rnds 4 to 35 according to the chart. Read the chart from bottom to top and from left to right.
CLUE 2:
RIGHT MITTEN:
Read the chart from bottom to top and from right to left. Rnd 36: with MC, k37, pm, m1, k3, m1, pm, k to end. Rnds 37- 61: work the mitten body chart to m, sl m, work corresponding row of thumb gore chart, sl m, knit mitten body chart to end of rnd. Rnd 62: (Please ignore the stitches outlined in red on the thumb gore chart for now.) Work the mitten body chart to m, sl m, work corresponding row of thumb gore chart to m. Using a tapestry needle treaded with waste yarn, carefully slip the thumb gore sts onto the waste yarn. Remove markers. Using a backwards loop cast-on, CO 3 sts with MC. Work the mitten body chart to the end of the rnd - 72 sts. Rows 63 - 88: Work the mitten body chart.
LEFT MITTEN:
Read the chart from bottom to top and from left to right. Rnd 36: with MC, k32, pm, m1, k3, m1, pm, k to end. Rnds 37- 61: work the mitten body chart to m, sl m, work corresponding row of thumb gore chart, sl m, knit mitten body chart to end of rnd. Rnd 62: (Please ignore the stitches outlined in red on the thumb gore chart for now.) Work the mitten body chart to m, sl m, work corresponding row of thumb gore chart to m.
