Miss Allen Presents: Arctic Grade Armwarmers with Bonus Headband Pattern for Extreme Cold Weather Knitting Projects

Miss Allen Presents:

ARCTIC GRADE ARMWARMERS (WITH BONUS HEADBAND PATTERN)

Pattern illustration

These armwarmers, designed to be worn over lighter gloves, will be the ones that you'll take on your next trip to Antarctica, the Yukon, or Siberia. Super bulky wool makes these simple armwarmers a lightning-fast knit, and you can adjust the length of the forearm as you knit. As written, one size fits most. As a bonus, you can also knit a simple headband from the left-over yarn.

Materials:

1 skein Bear Creek yarn from Kraemer Yarns. My color is Portobello, a soft bluegray. One skein makes armwarmers and headband.

13 Circular needle for headband if desired.

with #11 DPN, and using a knitted caston, cast on 20 st and join in rnd, being careful not to twist. Mark beg of round. Work 4 rnds K1, P1 ribing. Switch to #15 DPN and knit 22 rnds in SS or to desired length. (You can make your Armwarmers shorter at this point. Mine are from just below the crook of my elbow to about an inch below my wristbone. You may want to make yours shorter, depending on the length of your forearm. Just be sure to stop an inch below your wristbone!) WRIST SHAPING: Switch to #11 DPn and work 6 rnds of K1, P1 ribbing. (This gives a nice snug fit for your wrist.) THUMBHOLE: Switch back to the #15 DPNs, and work 6 more rnds of SS. At the end of your 6th rnd, you will TURN and PURL back to the beginning of your round. (You will now work back and Copyright 2008 by Cynthia Allen, All rights reserved. TURN and knit to the end of the row. Work flat like this for 2 more rows - 4 rows total. HAND: After you have knit and purled these 4 rows, on your final knit row, rejoin your work in the round by just knitting the next stitch onto another DPN, and continue to knit in the round over 20 stitches for 2 more rounds. Switching back to the #11 DPNs, work 2 rnds of K1 P1 ribbing, and bind off in pattern. Make another armwarmer and enjoy "Arctic Grade" warmth!
