POUCHFROMSIDETOSIDE
This pattern includes directions for a pouch worked from side to side of the basic cozy. This pattern is an addition to the iPod Nano Basic Cozy by Dieuwke van Mulligen.
DIRECTIONS
Work steps 1-4 from the Basic Cozy pattern. Step 5: Along the side (or 1-2 sts from the edge), with the smallest part of the body facing you, pick up 26 sts (see illustrations below). Make sure to pick up your sts in the same leg of a stitch and in the same column of stitches. Turn work.

Step 6:
Row 1: With your right needle, pick up one more st in the st next to the last one you picked up in (see illustrations below), bring yarn to front, and slip the first st on the left needle to the right needle. Pull the yarn tightly. Purl until you have 4 sts left, k to end. Turn work. Row 2: sl 1, knit until you have 2 sts left, ssk.

Every time you turn your work and start on the next row, be sure to pull the yarn tight to make the edge look neat. Repeat rows 1-2 until your pouch flap measures 3cm. You should be about to start a knit row.
Step 7:
Turn the pouch inside-out and around the cozy (see illustration to the right). You will have to fold the cozy a bit to make the pouch flap able to get around it. You now have the pouch wrong side (purl side) facing out, while the cozy is still right side (knit side) facing out:

Now bind off, picking up one stitch of the body each time you knit a stitch, as described here: Pass the right needle under one leg of a stitch there where you want the pouch to join to the body of the cozy (leave the pouch a bit puffy, so there is space for the earphones in it), as if to pick up a new stitch (the red circle in the first illustration below shows the st where you are picking up). Knit the first stitch on the left needle, and pass the picked up strand over the knitted stitch. Pass the right needle under one leg of the stitch next to the previous one (the second illustration below), work the first stitch on the left needle and pass the 2 existing stitches on the right needle over this newly worked stitch (see the third illustration).

Continue like this until all sts are bound off. Your progress and finished work should look like the illustrations below:

Now turn your pouch right side out again, and enjoy your efforts!
