Head/body:

Head and body are worked in 1 piece. Start with the base color for the body. You should end up with 9 rows in body color, followed by 16 rows in head color, and then 12 rows in body color - all in 1 piece. Round 1: Ch 15 + 3 (counts as 1 dc), skip 3 ch from the needle and dc 14 to end. Round 2- 9: turn and do 1 sl st in first st (simply to prevent holes), dc 14 to end. Continue the rows with \*turn, 1 sl st, 3 ch, 14 dc\* Round 10-25: change color for the head, and cont. in lines with \*turn with 1 sl st, 3 ch, 15 dc\* Round 26-37: change color back to the one used for the body and cont. in lines with \*turn with 1 sl st, 3 ch, 15 dc\*
Sides for the body:
You should end up with a side of 9 rows in body color and 6 rows in head color_ Round 1: start with body color, chain 7 + 3 (counts as 1 dc), skip 3 ch from the needle and dc 6 to end Round 2 - 9: \*turn with a sl st, 3 ch, dc 6 to end\* Round 10 - 15: change to head color, \*turn with a sl st, 3 ch, dc 6 to end\* Start by sewing the sides to the body part (match the side body part of the 9 rows with the head/ body color). Now fold over a pack of tissues and stitch together - note that 3 rows should be used for the "fold-over" top of the head and 3 rows should remain at the end for the bottom. Leave open approx 5 cm at the bottom in order to insert new tissue packs.

Eyes:
Round 1: ch 4 - collect to a ring, sc 6 in the ring Round 2: change color, 2in1 st (=12) Round 3: change color (to white) \*sc 1 in first st, 2in1 in next st\* (=18). Break the yarn and weave in ends. Make another one alike. Weave in ends.

Owl/ penguin wings:
Round 1: ch 12 (these chs determines the length of the wing/ears, so if you want the wings to be longer, then do a couple more chs and equally many hdc). Turn with 1 ch and crochet 1 hdc in 2. ch from the needle, hdc 11 more to end. Round 2: Turn with 1 ch, sc 11, do a 3in1 in next st, continue to work in u-shape around the hdc's from previous round, sc 11 to the top.

Round 3: Turn with 1 ch, sc 12, 3in1 in next st, continue to work in u-shape, sc 12 to the top. Break the yarn, weave in the ends and do yet another wing/ ear the same way. Sew the wings on each side in the line of the head/body color change - and ears should go on top of the head on each side.
Owl/penguin beak:
The beak is made the same way as the wings/ears, but with less ch's and less rounds. Round 1: ch 5, and crochet 1 hdc in 2 ch from the needle, hdc 3 to end. Round 2: Turn with 1 ch, sc 3, 3in1 in next st, work in u-shape sc 4 to the top. Round 3: Turn with 1 ch, sc 5, 3in1 in next st, work in u-shape sc 4 to the top Break the yarn and weave in ends.
Owl feet:
Place the needle in a ch on the front of the body, sl st 5, turn and sc 5, sc 3 turn with 1 and sc 5 down the chain of 3 which you just did, sc 1 in the 1st sc of the base - from this sc you ch 5, turn with 1 ch and sc 5 down the chain, sc at base in 3rd st, ch 3, turn with 1 and sc 3 down the chain of 3, sc 1 in 5th sc at base - break yarn and weave in ends, and make the other foot alike.

Penguin feet:
Chain 3, sc 3. In first st do 3 ch, 2 dc, 1 sl, in next 2 sts do \*3 dc, 1 sl st\*. Make another one alike.

Penguin belly:
Round 1: ch 4 - collect to a ring, sc 6 in the ring Round 2: 2in1 st (=12) Round 3: \*sc 1 in first st, 2in1 in next st\* (=18). Round 4: 2 sc, 2in1 (=24) Round 5: 2in1,3 sc (=30) Round 6: 2in 1, 4 sc (=36) Round 7: 2in 1, 5 sc (=42)
Decorate with a flower:
Round 1: ch 4 and join to a ring Round 3: ch 3 (counts as a dc), 2 dc and 1 sl st - all in the 1st st. In the next st \*3 dc, 1 sl st\*. Continue 5 times in the round, and break the yarn and attach the flower to the cover. Break yarn and weave in ends.
