These cute crocheted tea light covers work up very quickly and can be personalized in a million different ways. Perfect for a birthdays, weddings, baby showers, or just to say congratulations! These would make lovely table decorations for an outside event, or a night light for a little one. Let your imagination go wild! Have your cake and light it up, too!!

Materials

Sport weight yarn, several yarns for the main color and various scraps for decorations or embellishments G hook Tapestry needle Battery operated, plastic tea light

Basic Cake

Using only a few yards of yarn, this cake should easily slip over a standard plastic tea light. Depending on your personal crochet technique, you may need to adjust your hook size to get the right fit.

Instructions

Note: At the end of each round the sl st join, ch 1, and first hdc of the next row are all done in the first hdc of the previous row. Rnd 1: Ch 8, join to first ch to make a ring, ch 1, 16 hdc in ring, join (16) Rnd 2: Ch 1, (hdc, 2 hdc in next st) around, join to BLO of first hdc (24) Rnd 3: Ch 1, hdc in BLO of each hdc, join to both loops of first hdc Rnd 4 -5: Ch 1, hdc in ea hdc around, at end of rnd 5 cut yarn and weave in ends.

Basic Frosting

Bottom of Cake: Working in the FLO of this rnd, join a contrasting color with a sl st in any hdc on rnd 5, \*3 sc in next st, sl st in next st\* around, end with 3 sc and sl st to first sl st, cut yarn and weave in ends. Top Edge of Cake: Surface crochet below the unused loop of rnd 2.
