My friend Caitlin stumbled upon this quick, easy method of making a knit bow. Sew it onto head bands or metal snap clips for a classic hair accessory, attach to a collar for an immediate pet fashion statement.

Materials:

- About 20 yards worsted weight cotton or wool yarn - Size 11/ 3 mm knitting needles - Darning needle

Gauge:

2"'x2" square = 9sts x 16 rows

You now have a finished knit bow. Gently iron it if necessary. Play with yarn combinations and types. A linen blend or lighter weight yarn will create a drapeier bow, while a bulkier yarn will create a bolder accessory. Cast on more or fewer stitches to create a larger or smaller bow, just be sure to cast on an odd number of stitches for the seed stitch pattern to work. Directions: Cast on 9 stitches. Row 1: K1, P1 (end on knit stitch) Repeat row one (this will create a seed stitch) until bow measures 6 inches long. Bind off leaving a yarn tail of abut 2 yards. Sew cast on end to cast off end creating a loop. It is easiest to use he extra yarn at the cast on end for this. Leave the left over yarn sticking out. You will use this to tie off the bow center. Once you have a finished loop, lay it flat and find the center of it. Pinch the center together to create a bow. Take your 2 yard yarn tail and wrap it tightly around the center of your loop about 20 times. To finish the bow, tie the remaining yarn to the tail you left hanging out when sewing up the loop. Weave in ends.
