Ridge & Furrow Scarf
Knit in a simple garter ridge pattern designed by Sue Grandfield [RiotousAssembly]
materials:
140 g Colourmart Super Yak Extrafine Merino Fingering weight "Vermentino"(MC) 8g each of 19 different colours of Marta's Yarns 4ply (CC1 - CC19) All yarns are used doubled -I have a lot of 4ply leftovers . Alternatively, you could use DK or light worsted weight yarns held singly. CC1) lime green #83 CC2) pea green #71 CC3) olive green #51 CC4) forest green #49 CC5) khaki #53 CC6) asparagus soup #31 CC7) straw #351 CC8) maize #301 CC9) chartreuse #61 CC10) gold #L Gold CC11) burnt orange #63 CC12) orange #64 CC13) coral #106 CC14) tan #33 CC15) pink peppercorn #205 CC16) magenta #69 CC17) dark lilac #161 CC18) dark plum #71 CC19) old burgundy # 37 Colour numbers (#) are Marta's 4ply a long discontinued yarn; I've made up names to indicate the type of colour used for each stripe. 5.00mm circular needles (80cm or longer recommended as scarf is worked lengthwise) 4.50 needle for finishing ends of scarf size: measures 9"x 67" - [ 23x 170cm ] gauge: not critical but is \~ 17sts per 4"/10cm over st st stripe
Instructions:
Note: All yarns held doubled throughout
Using 5.00mm needles and MC cast on 280 sts. Work 3 rows k all sts. Join in CC1 and work 2 rows k all sts. Break off CC1. Begin garter stripe pattern:

R1) (MC): k all sts to end of row R2) (MC): p all sts to end of row R3) (CC2): k all sts to end of row R4) (CC2): k all sts to end of row Work rows 1-4 a total of 18 times, using a different contrast colour [CC2-CC19] to knit rows 3 &4 in each repeat. Break off CC19. With MC, work 4 rows gt st (k all sts). Cast off knitwise. Purl Blip Edging: Work for both ends of scarf. Basic instructions here, full details on next page..

With right side facing using 4.5mm needles & MC, pick up and purl 61 sts along the short edge of the scarf. Work 3 rows gt st (k all sts). Cast off knitwise. Press lightly, covering with a cloth to protect the yarns.

How to work the Purl Blip Edging:
1. The edging is only worked on the short edges of the scarf [ie the unfinished edges of the scarf]:

2. With the right side facing, using 4.50mm needles and MC, pick up and purl 61 sts along the edge of the scarf:

To match the stripes, you should pick up and purl - a) 2 sts in each of the MC stripes; insert the tip of the RHN into the middle of each k st; pick up the bar in the centreof thest b ) 1 stitch through each of the purl bumps in the gt st stripes c) 3 sts in the MC gt st edging at either end 3. Work 3 rows knitting all stitches (gt st). 4. Cast off. Work other end of scarf to match. 5. Weave in ends. Press lightly.
