Sassehach-Claire's Cozy Cowl Knitting Pattern Inspired by Outlander's Starz Series

Sassehach-Claire's Cousl

Pattern illustration

A cozy, loose knit, inspired by the cowl Claire wears, in the first season of the Starz hit series “Outlander". The knits worn by the characters in the show, have almost reached a cult status. Admittedly, I too, was smitten with the fabulous oversize cowl Claire wears in the first season, so I decided to make up my own. The dark brown yarn, like what is used for Claire's cowl, is difficult to find in stores due to the heightened popularity of the cowl, but if you are feeling a little ambitious, you can explore dyeing the taupe colored yarn to a more suitable brown color using acid dyes (super fun & easy) designed for dyeing fiber...and YES! You can dye acrylic! This is a super easy, super fast knit, and is suitable for beginning/new knitters. SuppliesNeeded: 1-100 g (3.5 oz) (109m/120 yards) Ball of Bernat Roving in, 00010 Taupe (or color of your choice). 1 pair of US 36 knitting needles. Waste yarn in contrasting color for provisional cast on. Tapestry needle for grafting and weaving in your ends. Gauge: Over a 4"X4" swatch, 6 stitches and 6 rows.

Using your contrasting waste yarn, and an S-35 crochet hook (19 mm), chain 35-40 stitches. Pick up, and provisionally cast on 20 stitches using the back loops (not the chains on the front) of your crochet chain. Work 53 rows, 0ver 20 stitches in garter stitch, Purl the last row (row 54), as it is needed for the grafted join in garter stitch. Carefully unravel your crochet chain for the provisional cast on, picking up stitches as you go, with your empty knitting needle. Graft the two ends with a straght join, not a twisted join, like the infinity loop style, with a garter stitch join. Weave in ends, and throw it on...Super warm and cozy! Youtube is an excelent source for any of the techniques used in this pattern..E njoy!
