Overlaid Chain and Button - optional
Cut six lengths of coordinating cotton approximately $52^{\prime\prime}$ in length. Fold one of the yarn lengths in half. Holding the length of cotton and the tam in your free hand, insert your hook from front to back in Round 1 on the ribbed band and at the base of a ch 2 sp row.

Hook the folded length of cotton and pull the loop through to the front of hat. Pull loop so it reaches up to the first ch 2 space

Insert hook through hole. YO both strands and pull through to the front of hat and through the loop on hook. Repeat step to the center of the hat Note: Be careful not to do it too tightly or the hat will pucker. The look of the hat will change according to how tight you make the overlaid chain. This may take a little practice. Repeat for the remaining five ch 2 space rows. Once satisfied with the look, pull all loose ends through thecenter of thehat andweave in all ends. Wrap a galvanized steel washer with a length of coordinating cotton and attach to the hat. This pattern may be printed for the personal use of the purchaser only.
