STARFLOWER HEXAGON
$\copyright$ 2010 Julie Mnemosyne (http://sjedesigns.blogspot.com/)

Have fun making these hexagons! If you have any questions or spot an error, please send me a message on Ravelry or email me at mnemosyne.star@gmail.com. PATTERN NOTES The resulting hexagons will probably need to be blocked to lay flat. YARN 3 or 4 colors of yarn (A, B, C, and D - A and C can be the same color). I used an aran weight yarn. HOOK SIZE Appropriate hook for yarn weight - see “Gauge and size." I used anH/5.0 mmhook. GAUGE AND SIZE Gauge isn't terribly important, although I suggest you pick a yarn and then test the pattern with different-sized hooks until the result lies reasonably flat; you can always block out minor curling later. My hexagons ended up 7 in. ( $17.8\;\mathrm{cm})$ from side to side and 8 in. $(20.3\;\mathrm{cm})$ from tip to tip. These slip stitches are basically embroidering the loop over the previous rounds and are called embroidery slip stitches in the charted pattern. 3. Slip stitch into space under first dc in Round 4 of next petal. 4. Slip stitch over sc in Round 4 between current and next petal. 5. Slip stitch over last dc in Round 4 and into same stitch as last sc in Round 5 of current petal. 6. Slip stitch into space under initial chain 3. 7. dc in ch-1 sp, dc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts] 5 times. 3 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 3 sts, dc in ch-1 sp, dc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next st. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off D, leaving a long tail for seaming. Seaming: Line up two hexagons along one side on each hexagon. See diagram below for how to lay out more than two hexagons; the white lines outlined in gray indicate seams. Thread D into a yarn needle and, passing under the top loops of the last round of sts, seam the two pieces together by zigzagging the yarn along the length of each side, passing back along the same path in the opposite direction for added security. Fasten off D.
