Crochet Pattern for Mesh Lace Capelet by Jenna B - Easy to Intermediate Level Project with Top-Down Construction

Mesh Lace Capelet

by Jenna B http://www.ravelry.com/people/Oreana Difficulty: Easy stitches and construction, but this is my first pattern so bear with me. It's untested, so it's probably best that you have an intermediate knowledge of crochet so you can adjust to your own gauge/ measurements and make other adjustments in your work where necessary. Suggested yarn: Caron Simply Soft (worsted) Yardage: 1 skein for size shown Hook: 5.5mm (I) Notes: Worked top-down with collar added after, but no tieing-off in between. tlo = top loop only Row 1: Ch length of neck (40ch, plus 1 for turning = 4ch.) Turn. Row 2: Sc in second ch from hook. Sc tlo across. Ch 3, turn. Row 3: Dc in same st as turning chain (Ch 3 at end of rows count as 1 dc throughout). 2 dc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. Row 4: Sc tlo across. Ch 3, turn. Row 5: Dc tlo across. Ch 1, turn. Row 6: Repeat row 4. Row 7: Dc in same st as turning chain [dc tlo in next sc, 2 dc tlo in next dc] across. Ch 1, turn. Rows 8-12: Repeat rows 4-7 once, then repeat row 4 but ch 1 instead of 3 at end. Yoke should be almost at beginning of shoulder curve. Row 13: Sc around post of each sc across. (Makes a ridge of top loops appear on RS, you could just sc if you want.) Ch 3, turn. Row 14: Dc in next sc [ch 2, sk 2, dc] across. End with 3 dc in last 3 sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 15: Sc in each dc, 2 sc in each ch 2 space across. Ch 1, turn. Row 16: Sc in first sc, [sk 2, 5 dc in next sc, sk 2, sc in next sc] to make shells across. Turn. Row 17: [Ch 7, sc in center dc of shell] across. After last shell, ch 4, dc in sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 18: Sc, ch 7, skip first loop, sc in next loop, [Ch 7, sc in loop] across. Sc in dc at end. Turn.

Row 19: [Ch 7, sc in center dc of next loop] across. After last shell, ch 4, dc in sc. Ch 1, turn. Rows 20-21: repeat rows 18-19.5 rows of mesh pattern. Row 22: Ch 7, skip first loop, [ch 5, sc in next loop] across. At last loop, ch 5, dc in third ch. Ch 1, turn. Row 23: Sc in each dc, 5 sc in each loop across. In last loop, 4 sc, sc in loops of fourth ch. Ch 1, turn. Rows 24-25: Repeat row 14-15 Row 26: Repeat row 13 Row 27: Repeat row 16. Don't turn, sc evenly up along edge. Sc across neck (in bottom loops of beginning chain) but don't go down other side. Ch 1, turn. Row 28: Sc tlo across. Ch 3, turn. Row 29: Dc tlo across. Ch 5 to make button loop, turn. Rows 30-33: repeat rows 28-29 twice. Row 34: Repeat row 16. Don't turn, sc evenly down other edge. Fasten off. Finishing: Make a chain the length you want for the cord (a bit longer than twice the height of the capelet works.) Fatten up the chain with a row of sc. Insert the cord around the end stiches of row 2 on both sides. Make and attach tassels to the cord if you like. Add buttons to collar to make a standing collar if you want.
