Green Bird

By Teresa Alvarez (March 2013) About copyright: It's really something great when people like what I have designed. You can sell the final item or whatever you like, but it would be nice to reference where you found the pattern! If there is anything you do not understand or there are any mistakes, please, send me a message! As you can see in the way I write, English is not my first language. So, you could come across some mistakes and grammatical inconsistencies@. Sorry and my apologies! This file describes how to crochet a bird. It is conical with long legs. As always, when it is possible, I attach items as I crochet.

It is not important, as far as you are consistent with your tension. ABOUTHOOK: 3 mm hook Remember that when making amigurumis, stitches should be tight.

ABOUTCROCHET TERMS:
I've followed the US terminology. Stitch: st Chain: ch Slip stitch: sl st Single crochet: sc Sc2tog: decreasing two sc (i.e., 2 st become 1) Sc3tog: decreasing 3 sc (i.e. 3 stitches become 1) NOTE: I've made all the decreases as invisible decreases
PATTERN:
All the pattern is worked in spirals, so do not join at the end/beginning of a row.
Wings (make 2)
Using dark green. There are two small parts than when joined form the wing.

Small part: Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook). Round 2: [2sc in next st, sc in next st] repeat 3 times (9 sts) Round 3: sc in each st across (9st) Round 4: [2sc in next st, sc in next 2st] repeat 3 times (12 sts) Round 5: sc in each st across (12st) Round 6: [2sc in next st, sc in next 3st] repeat 3 times (15 sts) Fastenoff

Last worked stitch of big part Begininning in the last worked stitch of big part, sc in each stitchof small part, then sc in each st of big part: 30 stitches Round 2: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the wing and sc in remaining st. (28 st)

Round 3: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the wing and sc in remaining st. (26 st) Round 4: decrease 2 stitches at the middle of the wing and sc in remaining st. (24 st)

Round 5: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the wing and sc in remaining st. (22 st) Round 6: decrease 2 stitches at the middle of the wing and sc in remaining st. (20 st) Round 7: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the wing and sc in remaining st. (18 st) Round 8: decrease 2 stitches at the middle of the wing and sc in remaining st. (16 st) Round 9: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the wing and sc in remaining st. (14 st) Round 10: sc in each st across (14 st) Fasten off. Winas are not stuffed
Tail (make 1)
Using dark green. There are three small parts than when joined form the wing

Small part (make 3): Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook). Round 2-4: sc in each st across (6st) Fasten off two of the three parts and DO NOT fasten off the last one Joining parts: Round 1:

Last worked stitch of last part Begininning in the last worked stitch of last part, sc in next 3 stitches of MEDIUM part, then sc in next 6 stitches of small part, sc in next 3 stitches of medium part and sc in next 6 stitches of beginning part. So: 18 stitches Change to bright green Round 2: sc in each st across (18 st) Round 3: decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced and sc in remaining st. (14 st)

Round 4-5: sc in each st across (14 st) Round 8: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the tail and sc in remaining st. (12 st)

Round 9: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the tail and sc in remaining st. (10 st) Round 10: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the tail and sc in remaining st. (8 st) Round 11: sc in each st across (8 st) Fasten off. Tail is not stuffed Feet&legs (make 2) Using yellow.

It is important to stuff the foot and leg as you work because it is very narrow and if leave it to the end it's harder!!!! There are three small parts than when joined form the foot. Small part (make 3): Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook). Round 2-7: sc in each st across (6st) Fasten off two of the three parts and DO NOT fasten off the last one Joining parts: Round 1:

Last worked stitch of last part Begininning in the last worked stitch of last part, sc in next 3 stitches of MEDIUM part, then sc in next 6 stitches of small part, sc in next 3 stitches of medium part and sc in next 6 stitches of beginning part. So: 18 stitches Round 2: sc in each st across (18 st) Round 3: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the tail and sc in remaining st. (16 st)

Round 4: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the tail and sc in remaining st. (14 st) Round 5: decrease 2 stitches at the sides of the tail and sc in remaining st. (12 st) Round 6: sc in next 16 st. NOTE: I know! we are working one round and four stitches of the next, I'm trying to place the beginning of round at a suitable place for shaping the ankle. Round 7: sl st in next 6st, sc in next 2st, hdc in next 2st, sc in next 2st (12 st) Round 8: repeat round 7. Round 9: sc in next st, sl st in next 6st, sc in next 2st, hdc in next 2st, sc in next st (12 St) Round 10-63: sc in each st across (12 st)
Beak&Body
Beak
Using yellow NOTE: while writing the pattern, I've placed the increases/decreases at the same places, but they can be placed randomly spaced at the round. Beak and body are worked in one piece and wings, feet and tail are attached as you Crochet. Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook). Round 2: sc in each st across (6st) Round 3: [2sc in next st, sc in next st] repeat 3 times (9 sts) Round 4: sc in each st across (9st) Round 5: [2sc in next st, sc in next 2st] repeat 3 times (12 sts) Round 6: sc in each st across (12st) Round 7: [2sc in next st, sc in next 3st] repeat 3 times (15 sts) Round 8: sc in each st across (15st) Round 9: [2sc in next st, sc in next 4st] repeat 3 times (18 sts) Round 10: sc in each st across (18st) Round 11: [2sc in next st, sc in next 5st] repeat 3 times (21 sts) Round 12: sc in each st across (21st) Round 13: [2sc in next st, sc in next 6st] repeat 3 times (24 sts) Round 14: sc in each st across (24st) Round 15: [2sc in next st, sc in next 7st] repeat 3 times (27 sts) Round 16: sc in each st across (27st) Round 18: [2sc in next st, sc in next 8st] repeat 3 times (30 sts) Round 19: sc in each st across (30st) Round 20: [2sc in next st, sc in next 9st] repeat 3 times (33 sts) Round 21: sc in each st across (33st) Round 22: [2sc in next st, sc in next 10st] repeat 3 times (36 sts) Round 23: sc in each st across (36st) Round 24: [2sc in next st, sc in next 11st] repeat 3 times (39 sts) Round 25: sc in each st across (39st) Round 26: [2sc in next st, sc in next 12st] repeat 3 times (42 sts) Round 27: sc in each st across (42st)

In the next 30 rounds we are going to increase 3 st a round. I placed the eyes in such a way that the change of color cannot be seen: there is an eye on top! Round 28: [2sc in next st, sc in next 13st] repeat 3 times (45 sts) Round 29: [2sc in next st, sc in next 14st] repeat 3 times (48 sts) Round 52: attach wings, centered at the body (see photos), working through both thicknesses and increase 3 st.

Round 54: attach legs, centered at the bottom and working through both thicknesses (alternatively, you can sew them at the end) and increase 3 st. Round 57: [2sc in next st, sc in next 42st] repeat 3 times (132 sts) NOTE: if you prefer that the change from working both loops to working on BLO is less noticeable, you can go on sc in each st until the legs are reached. Round 58: working in BLO, sc in each st across (132 st) NOTE: As I didn't have another bright green skein, I decided to give the last part of the bird a colorful note: every three rows, I change from bright green to dark green. This is absolutely optional Round 59: [sc2tog, sc in next 20 st] repeat 6 times (126 st) Round 60: [sc2tog, sc in next 19 st] repeat 6 times (120 st) Round 74: decrease 6 stitches and attach tail Round 79: sc2tog, repeat 6 times (6 st) Fasten off and use tail to weave end

Finishing touches
If you haven't sewn the tail or wings, this is the time!!
