5 sts & 8 rows = 1" in pattern Cowl measures 26" in circumference. Depth is up to you!
Stitch Pattern
Rowlock Cow1

The Rowlock Cowl is so named for its brickwork appearance. The elongated stitches worked in the contrasting color are the “rowlock" portion of the brickwork appearance in the stitch pattern. If you can slip stitches, knit, and purl, then this cowl won't be hard for you at all! Rounds 1 & 3: with MC, knit 2 sts, \*slip 2 stitches, knit 4 sts. Repeat from \* to end of round. Rounds 2 & 4: with MC, purl 2 sts, \*slip 2 stitches, purl 4 stitches. Repeat from \* to end of round. Rounds 5 & 6: with CC, knit to end of round. Rounds 7 & 9: \*with MC, slip 1 stitch, knit 4 stitches, slip 1 stitch. Repeat from \* to end of round. Rounds 8 & 10: with MC, slip 1 stitch, purl 4 stitches, slip 1 stitch. Repeat from \* to end of round. Rounds 11 & 12: Repeat rounds 5 & 6.
Cowl
Cast on 144 stitches and join for working in the round without twisting. Work 8 rounds in garter stitch using MC, then switch to CC and knit 2 rounds in Stockinette Stitch. Begin stitch pattern, working until cowl measures 1" shorter than desired length, ending on round 10. Knit 2 rounds in Stockinette Stitch using CC, then switch to MC and work 8 rounds in garter stitch. Loosely bind off, block, & weave in ends. @2013 Burke House Crafts.
