Tresco Cowl Knitting Pattern: A Versatile Accessory with Sub-Tropical Vibes and Detailed Instructions

Tresco is the second largest of the Scilly Isles in Cornwall, UK. The beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue seas make this a wonderful part of the world. On the island can be found the sub-tropical Abbey Gardens with an amazing variety of plant life.

This versatile cowl can be worn as a single loop (pictured left) or doubled to be snug and cozy around the neck (overleaf) Size: 50" circumference by 8'' tall Gauge: 19 stitches and 32 rows over 4" in pattern stitch using US size 7 (4.5mm) needles after blocking.

Materials:

One US size 7/4.5mm circular needle, 24" long Yarn A: 300yd/275m DK weight (shown in Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend, color Patina) Yarn B: 147yds/134m sport or DK weight (shown in Blue Sky Alpacas Metalico, color Silver) The cowl used approximately 2 skeins Yarn A and 1 skein Yarn B. Stitch Marker Tapestry needle for weaving in ends Cowl: Using size #7 needle and Yarn A, C0 240 stitches and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Set up round: \*k3, p1, repeat from \* to end of round Round 1: \*p1, k1,p1, sl1 wyif, repeat from \* to end of round. Round 2: \*k1, sl1 wyib, k1, p1, repeat from \* to end of round Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until you have used up 12 the skein of Yarn A (approx 75 yds)

Join Yarn B. Do not cut Yarn A. Work rounds 1 & 2 using Yarn B, then change to Yarn A and work rounds 1 & 2 Continue working rounds 1 & 2, changing yarn every 2 rounds until you have used up 1/3 of the skein of Yarn B (approx 50 yds), ending with Yarn A Proceed as follows: Round 1: work in Yarn B Round 2: work in Yarn A Abbreviations used: CO - Cast on k - Knit P - Purl sl1 - slip one stitch purlwise wyif - with yarn in front wyib - with yarn in back Continue in this manner until you have used another 1/3 of a skein of Yarn B, ending with a round of Yarn A Go back to working rounds 1 & 2 in Yarn B, then rounds 1 & 2 in Yarn A until all of Yarn B is used up. Continue repeating round 1 & 2 using Yarn A , then bind off loosely.

Weave in ends, block to measurements and enjoy! ·This cowl can be made larger or smaller, by using a different yarn weight and adjusting the stitch count accordingly. Use a needle size one larger than suggested for the yarn to give a nice drape and scrunch to the cowl.
