Della Mitts

Materials:
Yarn: any fingering weight yarn will work, the sample uses Wollmeise 100% superwash in the colorway Frosch Harmonic. 2o0 yards will be more than enough to make either size. (l used approximately 180 yards to make the sample, size medium.) Finished sizes: women's medium or large, approximately 7.5 inches long from top to bottom (both sizes), approximately 6.5(7.5) inches around, unstretched. The lace makes these stretch to fit larger circumferences in the hand; the cuff fits more closely due to the bias in the fabric. Smaller sizes can be achieved by going down in needle size. Gauge: 8 stitches = 1inch Needles: size 2 US (2.75mm), or size to obtain correct gauge. The pattern is written for magic loop or two circulars, it may be adapted for DPNs if desired. Note: The pattern as written is the same for both left and right mitts, you may substitute a plain rib for the double eyelet rib on the palms if you wish, but you will need to remember to move the thumb gusset to the other side of the hand for one mitt to make a left and a right. I don't recommend substituting plain stockinette on the palm side, as it will probably make the hand baggy. ;tructions are given for women's size medium, with changes for the large size given i rentheses. Ex. Knit 3(4)
Cuff:
Cast on 60(72) stitches, preferably by casting on over two needles held together, or another stretchy cast-on may be used. (l used the long-tail method.) Divide the stitches between needles evenly, join to knit in the round without twisting, and begin razor eyelet pattern. sk2togpsso = slip 1, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over k2tog. round 1: knit all stitches. round 2: \* yo, knit 3(4), sk2togpsso, k3(4), yo, knit 1. Repeat from \* around six times. Repeat these two rounds until the cuff measures 3 inches or desired length. Knit one more round, decreasing 4(2) stitches evenly. Begin purl welt section. round 1: purl all stitches. rounds 2 and 3: knit all stitches. Repeat rounds 1-3 once more, then just rounds 1-2 once. You should have 3 purl welts total. Begin double eyelet rib for the hand and gusset section.
Gusset:
You will be beginning the new pattern stitch along with the gusset increases at this time. Follow the portion of the chart inside the right side box four(five) times, place a marker, knit the middle portion, place a marker, then the left side box four(five) times, to the end of the round. This will be round 1. Work rounds 2-33 as above, following the chart and slipping the markers as you cometo them. m1R = Bring the tip of the left-hand needle under the strand between stitches, from back to front. Knit this loop. m1L = Bring the tip of the left-hand needle under the strand between stitches, from front to back. Knit through the back of the loop.
Double Eyelet Rib:
round 1: \* p1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, p1\* repeat from rounds 2-4: \*p1, k5, p1\* repeat from Next round: work in pattern to first marker, slip 21 stitches to waste yarn, knit remaining stitches in pattern. You can remove your markers as you do this.
Top of Mitt:
Repeat double eyelet rib pattern as set for 1 more inch, ending with a round 3. Begin top ribbing. round 1: ((p1, k1) 3 times, p1) eight (ten) times around. Repeat this round for % inch or desired length. Bind off in rib pattern.
