Leaflines Shawlette by Aparna Rolfe
The Leafines Shawlette features a cable pattern reminiscent of the veins on leaves and leaf-like shapes. The shawlette is worked outwards from the center of the top edge and finished with a beaded edging. The intermediate-level design requires the ability to work and recognize front and back post stitches.

Finished Size 48" along top edge, 18" from top edge to center point. Gauge First 15 rows are 11” along top edge and 4" from top edge to center point after blocking. Picks Gloss Lace, Dandelion colorway, 2 skeins or 880 yds of lace weight yar Hook E/4 (3.5 mm) or as required to obtain desired drape. Beads 294 8/0 or 6/0 seed beads. Notions 4 markers, Beading wire or crochet hook to place beads, Needle to weave in ends.
Notes
· The pattern is in US crochet terminology, special stitches listed below under Glossary. · The beads for the edging are added while crocheting, not pre-strung on the yarn. · The ch 3 at the beginning of each row counts as a dc, so “dc in the last dc" means “dc in the top ch of the ch-3 from the previous row'. · The cable pattern shows on the right side of this shawl. Since the work is turned every row, a fpdc worked on a right side row appears as a bpdc on the wrong side. The directions refer to stitches as they appear on the side being worked, so fpdcs made on right side rows will be referred to as bpdcs on wrong side rows. · The terminology “in next st” is used interchangably with “around next st” for the post stitches in this pattern, so “(dc, fpdc, dc) in next st” means “dc in the next st, fpdc around the post of the same st, then dc again in the same st". · The pattern is partially charted. Charts for rows 1-9 and the edging are on the last page. Please read the written instructions after working rows 1-9 from the chart in order to understand the marked repeat. · The chart for the edging (rows 49-56 + Top edging) is stand-alone. The repeats as marked on that chart will not line up with the repeats as indicated in the written instructions, but following either will give you the same result. Refer to the written instructions of Row 56 for bead placement information. · Testers for this shawlette have suggested not to modify the pattern to make it larger. Unless you are very lucky or work through all the math first, the edging pattern will not line up correctly if you work more repeats of the body pattern. Additionally the yardage required will increase dramatically. They recommend using fingering weight yarn and/or working extra rows at the very end of the shawl for a larger size.
Glossary
· place bead (pb): Remove loop currently on hook, place bead onto loop, replace on hook. ● beaded spike stitch (bsp): This is used in the edging along the top of the shawl, so you are working along the sides of dcs. Insert hook under 2 dcs and pull up loop, pb on loop just pulled up, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook.
