Deceptively Simple Roll Brim Hat Il
\~ An original pattern by Beaded Pony Designs and Ginny Schweiss \~ This is a machine knit pattern for the mid gauge machine.
Materials
Mid gauge knitting machine, like a Silver Reed LK150 or SK860. Bernat pink marl yarn and Bernat Baby Jacquards Apple Blossom. On its own, an Apple Blossom hat wrinkles badly, but when combined, these two yarns work beautifully together. Yarn needle or bodkin for seaming. Gauge: 3.5 SPl x 5.7 RPl, or use your own gauge x desired dimensions.
Dimensions

Option 1, Deceptively Simple hat with fold-up brim, 8.5" long x 17.75" wide. The foldup “cuff" looks like garter st without the extra hand work. Shown above. Option 2, Deceptively Simple hat with roll brim, 7.625" long x 17.75" wide. Shown below. Both hats stretch to a 23" circumference.

Any length adjustment should be made in the first twenty rows, leaving the last fifteen rows solely for shaping this nice fit. If you start the shaping earlier, you will get a cone-shaped top. Most machine knit beanies are either bunched up at the top (fast, but a lot of padding) or shortrowed (tedious and less stretchy). The Deceptively Simple method produces a nicely fitted top on a very stretchy hat that willfit a range of sizes.
Finishing
Cut a long piece of yarn. Using a yarn ndl or bodkin, remove sts from km onto yarn. Don't gather it yet. Mattress stitch the seam with one strand of yarn, remembering to reverse the seam at the bottom so it won't show when it rolls or folds up. Now pull the crown sts together and tie off firmly, including generous tail you left after the last row. Beaded Pony Designs
