DIRECTIONS
Chain 5 and slip the last to the first to make a ring. Cap is worked in a spiral without using a join at the end of each row. Round 1: Work 6 sc into the ring (ch sp). Use stitch marker to mark start position. Round 2: Increase by adding 2 sc into each stitch (12 stitches) Round 3: \*sc into next stitch, 2 sc into next two stitches, repeat from\* (20 stitches) Round 4: \*sc into next stitch, followed by 2 sc into next, repeat from\* (30 stitches) Round 5: \*dc into next two stitches, 2 dc into next stitch, repeat from\* (40 stitches) Round 6: \*dc into each of next four stitches, 2 dc into next stitch, repeat from\* (48 Stitches) Round 7: \*dc into each of the next five stitches, 2 dc into the next stitch, repeat from\* (56 stitches) Round 8 and 9: Continue to add a few extra dc evenly spaced per round to adjust for size. For a finished size of 22 inch circumference you will need about 66 stitches. Rounds 10 - 16: dc into each dc from the round below, cap should be a loose fit Measure at round 12 for fit. Size adjustments are on rounds 8 and 9, if cap is too tight in diameter adjust now. It should fit a little loose as it will tighten when we go to round 17 in sc. Desired length at round 15/16 should be top of ears. If too long delete a round, if too short add a round of dc. Rounds 17 - 23: sc into dc/sc from round before. After round 19 cap should be a snug fit, if loose skip a few stitches evenly around the cap. Continue until cap is desired length. For a winter cap this should cover ears but not drop over the eyes.
Brim:
Round 24: dc into back loop of round below (approximately 66 stitches) Rounds 25-27: Continue in dc. Round 28: sc into dc from round before. Round 29: sc into sc from round before. d off with slip stitch into next stitch from previous round. Weave in end Turn up brim - enjoy! IVYB-IB002
