Suapa conl! @ patlern by Cnne B JCanssen Design
I love wearing a snug, tightfitting cowl in winter! AsI am living in a windy area a shawl iz not always evident wearing. A cowl seems to solve al my problems! But apart from being practical I want them to be pretty. AND funto knit! I think the Guapa cowl covered all my needs@

This cowl could be worked to desired length and width, depending on the wool used as well as the gauge. I give measurements and instructions for the two sample cowls: Cowl in whito: Width 36cm /l4" Lonath: F6cn Cowinwnte.wiatnf3ocm/T Fine cowl in blue: (could be plied twice around neck, or worn loose): Width 22.5cm/9". Length 90cm/35.5"

Bulky cowl: 3 skeins of Viking Garn Eco-alpaca, a 12ply, bulky wool that comes in skeins of 100gr/3.53oz and 125m/137yards Fine cowl: 1 skein of Lotus Cashmere (Trendsetter), a fingering weight, pure cashmere that comes in skeins of 55gr/2oz and 365m/400yards Bulky cowl: needles 5mm/US8 Fine cowl: needles 3mm/Us2.5 -Scrap-yarn in the same weight as your working wool, and a crochet hook - for the provisional cast-on -Stitch-markers (if you want to mark the different patterns from each other) -A row-counter is always useful Bulky cowl: 22sts in pattern = 10cm/4" Fine cowl: 36sts in pattern = 10cm/4"

t your cowl to exact measurements of the samples you should stay true to gauge If you would like to work to other dimensions you could easily do so by working to a different gauge. You could also add /subtract patterns to your liking K = knit p = purl RS = right side of work WS = wrong side of work st/sts = stitch/stitches yo = yarn over k2tog = knit 2 sts together (to decrease 1 st) ssk = slip, slip, knit (to decrease 1 st) sllk2togpsso = slip 1 st, knit 2 sts together, pass slipped st over pm = place marker, sm = slip marker m1 p = make 1 p st by inserting your left hand needle from front to back under the strand between the last worked st and the following, lift the strand to your LHN, p from back to front through the strand
Knitling inslruclions
The cowl is knitted from side to side, and starting from a provisional cast-on. When you have reached desired length the short sides of the cowl are worked together from WS using the 3-needle bind-off method. You could also start from a traditional cast-on and seam the sidestogetherfromws.
Casx on
Start work by making a provisional cast-on: Using a crochet hook and smooth scrap-yarn in the same weight as your working wool chain 86. Fasten off your chain and make a knot in this end to mark out the yarn-tail (this is the end to loosen when you return to pick up these sts to work the sides together). With working wool and straight or circular needles 3mm/US2.5 (fine cowl)/5mm/Us8 (bulky cowl) pick up 1 st in each “bump" at the WS of the chain, starting 4-5 loops into the chain. Pick up a total 76 sts. Leave remaining chains Set-up row for patterning: All patterning start from row 1 of the charts and/or the written instructions Row 1 RS: work 13 sts of chart/pattern A, pm, work 13 sts of chart/pattern B, pm, work 25 sts of chart/pattern C, pm, work 13 sts of chart/pattern B, pm, work 13 sts of chart/pattern D Row 2 ws: follow chart/pattern rows 2: work 13 sts of chart/pattern A, sm, work 13 sts of chart/pattern B, sm, work 25 sts of chart/pattern C, sm, work 13 sts of chart/pattern B, sm, work 13 sts of chart/pattern D Continue work following patterns as established in rows 1 and 2. Markers are slipped and moved straight upwards. Work to desired length. Unfasten the sts from the provisional cast on. Bind off the side-sts from WS using the 3-needle bind off. Weave in loose ends. All charts are read from right to left on RS, from left to right on Ws. For key symbolssee below chart D Please note: chart A/C and D are worked over 12 rows. Chart B is worked over 14 rows.
