Flemish Block Lace Shrug

This easy to make shrug is worked in one piece from sleeve to sleeve,with Oblique Rib borders and Flemish Block Lace sleeve details, on a background of stockinette stitch. Instructions

Cast on 132 stitches, knit 12 rows in Oblique Rib for sleeve border. At the same time, on a right side row, make first buttonhole 1/2 inch from castonedge.Make3additionalbuttonholes spaced31/2 inches apart. Row 13 (right side),work the first and last 8 stitches of every row in Oblique Rib for side borders, knit the center 116 sts, decreasing 2 sts evenlyspacedacrossrow. Next row, work 8 sts in Oblique Rib, purl the 114 center sts, establishing the stockinette section, worklast8stsinObliqueRib. Continue working the first and last 8 stitches in ObliqueRib and thecenter 114 sts in stockinette st (knit right side rows, purl wrong side rows) for a total of 4 inches.

Next right side row, start row 1 of Flemish Block Lace, over the 114 center stitches, maintaining the side borders in Oblique Rib. Complete 7 repeats of FlemishBlockLacePattern. On next row, begin stockinette stitch (knit right side rows, purl wrong side rows). Continue until center stockinette section measures 21 inches. Begin row 1 of Flemish Block Lace. Complete 7 repeats. Adding buttonholes to matchplacement on the first sleeve. Switch back to stockinette stitch for 4 inches, increasing 2 sts, evenly across the last row. (132 sts) Next row, work 12 rows Oblique Rib across all 132 sts. Bind off loosely, weave in ends.

Finishing

Block garment to specified dimensions. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes.

Buttonholes

· Work 4 sts in pattern, bring yarn to front, slip 1 st purl wise, take yarn to back Slip 1 st purl wise, pass first slipped stitch over second. Repeat 2 more times (binding off a total of 3 sts).Place the last st back on left needle. Turn work. Cast on 4 sts using a cable cast on. Turn work so right side is facing you. Take yarn to back, slip first st off left needle onto right needle, pass the last cast on stitch over this slipped st. Buttonhole is complete, finish knitting row in pattern.
