Finished for what was hopefully the last Spring snow of the year, this hat has a motif section showing off a pattern that looks like the beautiful buds that have been emerging from the ground. It was knit in a lofty, springy handspun sprotweight but could just as easily be knit to the same gauge in a DK weight yarn.

Supplies

Approx. 200 yds lofty sportweight or a DK yarn US 6 needles, 16" circular and dpns Stitch markers Tapestry needle Gauge · 5 stitches = 1inch in stockinette stitch Size ·To fit a 20-22"head Special Stitch Abbreviations 5-inc - (k1, p1, k1, p1, k1) into same stitch as if starting a bobble ktbl - knit through the back loop to make a twisted stitch sl1-k2tog-psso - slip one stitch purlwise, knit two stitches together, pass the slipped stitch over the two stitches that were knitted together k2tog - knit the next two stitches together ssk - slip the next two stitches onto the right needle one at a time as if you were going to knit them; slip them back onto the left needle leaving them oriented the same way they were on the right needle; knit those two stitches together p2tog - purl the next two stitches together
