Orchid Fields

Materials
Yarn: Worsted weight Yarn used in sample: Red Heart Orchid Crochet Hooks: H, I Miscellaneous: yarn needle, wide ribbon (optional) Gauge for beginning rounds: 4" = 16 sc and 14 rounds Sizes: newborn - adult Notes: All sizes start the same. Continue working increase rounds until desired size is noted, then skip to "body". For the increase rounds, do not join at the end of each round. Use a marker (such as a scrap piece of yarn) to keep track of the beginning of the round. Working rounds of sc for increases creates a flatter top for a fun fit.

Snappy Tips
Abbreviations: chain (ch), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), slip stitch (sl st), decrease - single crochet two together (sc2tog), increase - work in the same stitch (2sc), front post double crochet (fpdc), back post double crochet (bpdc) When working in the round, I start with a magic loop of x amount of sts. Others prefer to start with a ch, join with a slip stitch to create a ring, and work x amount of stitches into the ring. I have created a few videos to help explain how I do some things. There are many wonderful instructional videos available for free on youtube and throughout the web. http://www.youtube.com/user/heidishowto?feature=mhee If you have any questions, comments or suggestions please email me at heidi@snappy-tots.com. HEAD AND HAT SIZE CHART for brand new babies to adult men
The hat height listed is for a standard beanie and will be a shorter measurement then a slouchy style hat. I prefer to make hats approximately 1" smaller than the head circumference so they will stretch and not be too big. Note: All measurements are approximate and based on "average" head sizes according to several online sources. Hat "height" is the measurement from top of crown to bottom edge.
