ANNETTE'S ENTRELAC PONCHO

This is a recipe rather than a pattern. To start with, you need to choose your yarn and decide what size needles you are going to use. The next step is to check how long and how wide you want your poncho to be and fill out the form. Then create a swatch and figure your gauge, recording your figures too. Do the math and figure out how many stitches you will need to cast on for your Entrelac panels.
Entrelac Panels (make 2):
Fold the Entrelac direction sheet like a letter. I find it easier to follow Entrelac directions if I can't see all the Options.:o) Start with the Base row, complete a \*Left Side Triangle, knit a Purl Side Rectangle, turn a Right Side Triangle, and knit a Knit Side Rectangle\*. Repeat \*\* until panel is long enough, then knit a Final Row (the last rows knit are a Purl Side Rectangle and a Right Side Triangle). Note: To make sure your butt is covered, make the back panel a couple of rows longer so your poncho will sit on your shoulders.
Poncho Sleeves:
Pick up sts on the long side of the front side of the shorter Entrelac rectangle (this will be the front of your poncho). Cast on enough sts to go over your shoulder and pick up sts on the long side of the front of the longer Entrelac rectangle (this will be the back). I cast on approximately 20 sts. The only way to check this is to try it on. Knit approximately 13 inches or until long enough, switch to smaller needles and knit 1 inch in 2x2 ribbing. Bind off. Repeat for other side.
Poncho Waist:
Using smaller needles, pick up sts across the front of the arm, the Entrelac panel, and the second arm. Knit 2 inches in the same ribbing as arms. Bind off.
Shawl Collar:
Your neck is a rectangle that will be transformed into a circle with a shawl collar. Starting at the left side (as you look at it), pick up sts around the side, back, and side of the neck (the front is not knit). Knit in the same ribbing as sleeves and waist until the ribbed collar is as long as the width of front of the neck. Bind off the collar, and crossing the two side edges of the collar, sew the sides to the front of the collar.

Finishing:
Weave in ends and block. The Entrelac panel and ribbing will str
