YO & draw t 2 Ips on hook. Rnd 1: With Color A, Ch4, 15dc in 4th ch from hook, join with slst in 3rd ch of beg ch4. (16dc) Rnd 2: Note: This round will show some cupping which works out in Rnd 3. Ch3 (counts as a st throughout pattern) & dc in same st. (Ch1, sk1, 2dc in next st) 7x. Ch1, sk1, join with a slst in top of beg ch3. (16dc, 8ch1sps) Rnd 3: Slst to next ch1 sp. Ch4, dc in same sp. \*Ch2, skp next 2dc, (dc1, ch1, dc) in next ch1sp\*; rep from \* to \* around; ch2; join with a slst in 3rd ch of beg ch4. Fasten off Color A. (16dc, 8ch1sps, 8ch2sps) Rnd 4: Note: spikesc are worked in front and between the next two dc, and the ch1sp on R3. Join Color B with a slst in any ch2sp; (ch3, dc, ch2, 2dc) in same sp. Working in front of the next 2dc and in front of the ch1 sp, spikesc in next ch1sp of Rnd 2 (between the dc). (64dc, 40ch3sps, 4ch2sps) Rnd 10: Join Color D with a sl st in any corner ch2sp, (ch3, dc, ch2, 2dc) in same sp, [\*dc in next 3 dc. 2dc in next ch3sp; (2trc in next ch3sp) 4x; trc in next 2dc; (2trc in next ch3sp) 4x; 2dc in next ch3sp, dc in next 3 dc\*; corner as (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch2sp] 3x. Rep \* to \*; join with a sl st in top of beg ch3. Fasten off Color D. (72trc, 56dc, 4ch2sps) Note If sq is less than 11" continue. IF doing Tapestry edging for R12, follow R11. If not, just work your sts across fr corner to corner, working your corners with 2sts, ch2, 2sts in them. Rnd 11: Join Color A with a slst in any corner ch2sp, (ch2, hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in same sp, [\*sk next dc, hdc in next 14 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in next 8 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in next 5 sts\*; corner as (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in next ch2sp] 3x. Rep \* to \*; join with a slst in top of beg ch2. Fasten off Color A. (132 hdc, 4ch2sps) Rnd 12: Shown in sc, worked Tapestry-style—See Notes. Join Color D with a sc in any corner ch2sp, 2sc in same sp—switching to Color A (or B) on 3rd sc; work Tapestry-style (see Notes) every three sts alternating Colors, until last 2sts (last 3 sts if you worked a Rnd 11) of side. If you did not work Rnd 11: Work final 2sts as (sc in next st with Color A, 2sc in last st with Color A, switching to Color D at end of the 2sc) If you worked a Rnd 11: Work final 3 sts in Color A, switching to Color D at end Work corner in Color D as 3sc, switching to Color A at end of 3rd corner st. Work around in this manner. When the end is reached, at the last stitch in Color A, switch to Color D at the end, pull stitch through, cut end 6 inches, and fasten off Color D with an Invisible Join to first sc; Fasten off Color A (or B) behind and weave in end.
