Needles: Size US 2-3 circular needle ( #2 for loose knitters and #3 for tight. These were designed for men, but if you wanted to make this for a woman you could probably just use size US 1. Note: socks pictured were knit on 2s by a loose knitter) 390-410 yards of DK weight yarn (shown here in Knit Picks Telemark) 50 Yds. fingering weight yarn for reinforcing heel and toe Tapestry needle for finishing Gauge: Whatever gauge you normally get for a 64 sts men's sock.

Abbreviations:

K-KIIIL p- purl PM - place maker/ M- marker k2tog- knit two together Ssk- slip, slip, knit slipped stitches tog. Pu/k- pick up and knit S- slip tbl- through the back loop Cuff: Cast on 64 with your preferred cast on (I used long tailed) Join into circle (careful not to twist and passing the two outside stitches over each other to form a lock) Work P2xK2 ribbing for 1- 1 %2" Leg: Repeat following sequence until leg $^+$ cuff $\mathbf{\theta}^{=}\,8^{\circ}$ or desired length: $\star_{\mathsf{P}_{2}}$ $\mathsf{K}2^{\star}\,3$ times, P2, K18, $\star_{\mathsf{P}_{2}}$ $\mathsf{K}2^{\star}\,3$ times, P2, K18. Heel: 30 sts heeland 34 sts instep: Setupforheel: ${}^{\star}\mathsf{P}_{2}$ $K2^{\star}\,2$ times and hold those sts as part of 34 for instep.

Join reinforcement yarn and continue working: P2, K2, P2, K18, P2, K2, P2. These are your heel sts. (I knowthis seems ikeasmallheelbut itistheonlywayIvefound thatitworks outmathematically forthe restof the pattern to make sense and it seems to stil be comfortable). Work back and forth on these 30 heel sts as follows: Ws: S1, p31 RS: S1\* K1, S1\* K1 Repeat until heel flap measures 2.25 -2.5" ca. 14 times making 15 slipped sts) Ending on a RS row

Turn heel:

RS: K 15, ssk, K1, wrap, turn WS: P to within 2 sts of the wrap/hole, p2tog, p1, wrap, turn. RS: K to within 2 sts of the wrap/hole, k2tog, k1, wrap, turn. Continue like this until all sts have been worked.

On last row of heel turn, work across place marker (PM) at the end, and cut reinforcement yarn.

Working up the side of the heel/gusset, pu/k 15 sts tbl, PM, Kacross the 34 instep sts in pattern, PM, pu/k 15sts tbl. $^{\star}\mathsf{B e}$ sure and pickup either side ofstitch between instep and side and worktogether as 1 st. Round 1: Work one round plain on all new stitches. Round 2: Workto2 sts away from the end of right gusset marker, k2tog; knit across instep past next marker; sskat the beginning of left gusset side., K to end of round. Continue these two rounds until only 64 sts remain (or until comfortable) Foot: Continue knitting plain on the back 30 sts and in pattern until exactly 2" below the toe. Shape toe: Add reinforcement yarn if you want it Work 1 decrease round, then knit 4 rows plain. \*Work 1 decrease round, then knit 2 rows plain\* 2x \*Work 1 decrease round,then knit 1 row plain\* 2 x Decrease every round until 12 sts remain on each side (or desired number). Finishing: Put onto 2 dpns; with 3rd, pass inside st over outside st on each end (this helps round the toes) Kitchener up toes to finish.
