Northernwarmth Scarf: Detailed Knitting Pattern with Garter and Two-Color Slipped Stitch Techniques

This scarf will warm you even in the most severe cold! Its northern-inspired design is much easier to knit than it looks - just alternating garter stitch and an easy-to-make twocolorslippedstitchpattern. Design: Viktoria Shevchuk

Size	15 in (38 cm) wide, 79 in (200 cm) long, after blocking
Materials	Yarn: SANDNES GARN MINI ALPAKKA (100% alpaca), 50 g [1.76 oz] = 150 m [164 yds] A: Color 1088 koks natur (charcoal), 150 g [5.3 oz] - 3 skeins = 450 m [492 yds] total B: Color 2650 grabeige melert (beige heather), 200 g [7 oz] - 4 skeins = 600 m [656 yds]
	total Needles: One pair of straight needles, or circular needle 80 cm [32 in] long, in size needed to obtain gauge listed, suggested size: 3 mm [Us 21/2]
Techniques	Garter stitch: knit on RS, knit on WS
	Selvedge stitches: slip first st of row (with yarn in back of work), purl last st of row
	Please note! Watch the size of your selvedge stitches. If it should be necessary to make them smaller, at the beginning of the row, after slipping one stitch, pull the working yarn
Gauge	With 3 mm [US 212] needles in slipped stitch pattern, after blocking: 22 sts and 34 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches]
Abbreviations st(s) = stitch(es), WS = wrong side, RS = right side

BEGIN OF WORK

Using 3mm (US 212) needles and color B yarn, cast on 85 sts. Rows 1 (Rs) - 14 (= 14 rows total): work with yarn B in garter stitch, work selvedge sts at the edges. Rows 15 - 36 (= 22 rows total): work in stitch pattern I (see page 3). Begin two sts before the pattern repeat, then work the 16 sts of the pattern repeat 5 times in all, after this, complete the row by working the 3 sts after the pattern repeat (= 85 sts). Rows 37 - 50 (= 14 rows total): work with yarn B in garter stitch, work selvedge sts at the edges. To avoid having to break color A yarn (not used during these rows), you may carefully carry it up in the selvedge sts: To do this, twist strands in colors A and B at the beginning of every RS row. Use this method every time when working a garter stitch section in color B. Rows 51 - 68 (= 18 rows total): work in stitch pattern III (see page 4). Start 2 sts before the right pattern repeat, then work the 8 sts of the right pattern repeat 5 times in all, work the center stitch, now, work the 8 sts of the left pattern repeat 5 times in all, complete the row by working the 2 sts after the left pattern repeat (=85 sts). Rows 69 - 74 (= 6 rows total): work with yarn B in garter stitch, work selvedge sts at the edges. Rows 75 - 92 (= 18 rows total): work in stitch pattern IV (see page 3). Start 2 sts before the right pattern repeat, then work the 8 sts of the right pattern repeat 5 times in all, work the center stitch, now, work the 8 sts of the left pattern repeat 5 times in all, complete the row by working the 2 sts after the left pattern repeat (=85 sts). 14 rows total): work with yarn B in garter stitch, work selv Rows 107 - 128 (= 22 rows total): work in stitch pattern II (see page 4). Begin two sts before the pattern repeat, then work the 16 sts of the pattern repeat 5 times in all, complete the row by working the 3 sts after the pattern repeat (=85 sts). Rows 129 - 142 (= 14 rows total): work with yarn B in garter stitch, work selvedge sts at the edges. Rows 143 - 180 (= 38 rows total): work in stitch pattern V(see page 5). Start 2 sts before the right pattern repeat, then work the 8 sts of the right pattern repeat 5 times in all, work the center stitch, now, work the 8 sts of the left pattern repeat 5 times in all, complete the row by working the 2 sts after the left pattern repeat (= 85 sts). Repeat Rows 1- 180 another 3 times. Now, repeat Rows 1 - 142 once more. Bind off all sts. Hide all ends and wet block garment.
