Readers of "The Dark is Rising", a young adult novel by Susan Cooper, willrecognise this design as representing the powerful Signs that the hero Will must collect to fight back the Dark. The six Signs represent wood, iron, bronze, water, fire and stone. This pattern is provided in written and charted form. Finished size: approx 20cm x 19cm Suggested Yarn: Sugar N Cream solid or other worsted cotton (half a skein is sufficient) Needles: 4mm Gauge: 10 cm squared $=$ approx 20 stitches and 26 rows
Cast on 40 stitches Knit 5 rows border (eg garter stitch or seed stitch) Commence pattern. Knit 3 stitches in border stitch at start and end of each row.
