Yarn
Worsted weight yarn: 190 yds in main colour (MC) 144 yds in contrast colours (CC) - approximately 6 yds for each of the 24 stripes Shown in Sweet Paprika Staccato (lo0% merino wool; 100g/I90yds), I skein Northern Sky (MC) and small amounts of assorted colours for CC stripes.
Needles
Size 9 (5.5mm) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. Notions Yarn needle
Gauge
17 sts and 22 rows = 4" in St st, after blocking.
Scarf
With MCI, cast on 30 sts. Knit 8 rows.

Pattern Notes
Note: Make sure to twist yarns once when changing colours to avoic holes. Row I (RS): K4 with MCI, k22 with CC, k4 with MC2. Row 2 (WS): K4 with MC2, p22 with CC, k4 with MCI. Rows 3-8: Repeat Rows I-2 three times. Row 9: With MCI, knit to last 4 sts, pass MC2 from front to back between needles, knit last 4 sts with MCI. Row I0: K4 with MCI, pass MC2 from front to back between needles, with MCI, knit to end. Rows II-l6: Repeat Rows 9-10 three times. Repeat Rows I-l6 twenty-three more times or until scarf reaches desired length, using assorted colours for CC stripes. Bind off all sts knitwise.
Finishing
Weave in ends. Wet or steam block. Gauge is not important for this pattern. Use an appropriate needle size for your yarn and have fun with the colour placement of the stripes! You will need to use either two separate balls of the MC or both ends of the same ball. MCl refers to the first ball and MC2 to the second ball. When working the MCI “ladders" between the stripes, MC2 is woven back and forth to carry it up the scarf, ready to work the next CC stripe.
